Patch Librarian

I would like to see a patch librarian built into your plugins, e.g. like integrated into the latest Alchemy release.

I would agree with that. It seems it's going to be a lot of work since all the Zebra presets that exist aren't tagged in any way (I don't consider using subfolders and acronyms in patch name tagging).

NO NO NO - Please do not add to Zebra any Alchemy style tags!!!
It is very easy to make folders in Zebra and sort out all the patches.
It is nice to be in charge of the patches.
Alchemy tags look stupid to me - Electronic, Distorted, Processed, Complex - these are just words that don't mean anything and don't describe the Patches at all.
And the worst thing in Alchemy is that we can't get rid of them.... they stack in the front page.
Maybe this sort of design is good for kids, who don't really know what they are doing

Umm... no. Those tags are really helpful and indeed I manage to find what I'm looking for a LOT faster than in Zebra. Same goes for similar tag based browsers in NI Kore and Omnisphere. VERY useful. If you don't like it, that doesn't mean they are less useful to somebody that's not you
u-he plugins definitely need something like this. Urs has good ideas on this subject, so I am confident his solution will be really useful.

I'm glad you find the Alchemy preset database query system better for you. It has made Alchemy unusable for me.EvilDragon wrote:Umm... no. Fortunately, i think having to come up with a system that handles things like The Dark Zebra library will keep u-he from ending up with something that only works for some peoples workflow/preferences. And unlike Camel Audio, I don't expect u-he to ignore their existing customers who are perfectly content, and in fact prefer, the system that was in place when they bought the product.

You can still just work at the level of libraries though if you want to - the attributes are an additional way of searching for patches but you don't have to use them.winds350 wrote:I'm glad you find the Alchemy preset database query system better for you. What would be useful for u-he plugins would be to make the preset library searchable. There is already a way to add additional text to each patch, but at the moment no way to use it to find anything. Then again at the moment I save my favourite patches as Kore Sounds anyway - Kore is still the best preset librarian software (prefer it to Alchemy's system tbh)

In the strict sense that you can configure Alchemy that way, yes. However. so much of the screen real estate has been consumed by the other stuff, that I find it useless in that configuration.aMUSEd wrote:You can still just work at the level of libraries though if you want to - the attributes are an additional way of searching for patches but you don't have to use them.

Let me get this straight, so before you would click on the menu bar and navigate down through several subfolders to find a patch. Now you click on the library and then select your patch from the list, or if you hate the library page so much, close it altogether and just navigate from the drop down menu in simple or advanced view, and you say it's now "useless"? Sorry but that sounds rather exaggerated to me. I accept that you don't like it but fail to see how this minor change in workflow renders it beyond usability.

In the old drop down boxes, I could see all the libraries I had installed at once. As I drilled in the amount of information presented was much greater than it is now. Enough that I could see all the sub-groupings in a given library at once. And I could see all the options at the current level. Now, I don't know if what I'm looking for doesn't exist (I didn't buy that library, that library has no bass sounds) or if it is there but just not currently visible.aMUSEd wrote:Let me get this straight, so before you would click on the menu bar and navigate down through several subfolders to find a patch. After figuring out why I stopped using Alchemy, it also helped me understand why I don't use Rhino much, if at all, and why I never pulled the trigger on synthmaster.
