We cant reproduce the scanner issue, but we are looking into a fix right now.
The new scanner launch the MIDI Guitar application to scan in a separate process to avoid faulty plugins to crash it (ie. MIDI Guitar.exe launch MIDI Guitar.exe) This is similar to how most DAWs scan for plugins in another process for safety reasons.
As i understand you nothing happens when you press "scan". Could it be related to AV software or file permissions?
We are making a fallback to scan in the same process if the exe isn't launching for some reason.

Hey,
Just from playing the test piano, I can feel a much better response, good job. I agree with you sloppy playing does benefit from this update
However, I too can't scan for VSTi, so I haven't tried other instruments yet
Also, I think the tuner needs further calibration. My axe-fx ultra says all strings are perfectly in tune, whereas midi guitar tells me they are all sharp (e.g. low E string looks about 30% towards F). I am using both tuners simultaneously.

Just for clarity, I am on OSX 10.8.3
The scanning process launches but never completes, I can confirm it is scanning because it found a plug in that 'failed to load'

Exactly the same here. First it crashed while loading one specific vsti, after removing it the scan started. I waited 30min and the computer didn't seem to do anything anymore. BTW I am missing the "choose on dll" funcion a bit as it was simply simpleJJunkie wrote:...it scans but never finishes.. still going after 10 minutes or so
Otherwise nice update, it seems to respond faster.
Cheers!

Well I am on windows 7 32 and that is exactly the same symptoms as me. When I cancel the scanning, Midi Guitar points out a VSTi that failed to loadDaggilarr wrote:Just for clarity, I am on OSX 10.8.3

Thanks for reporting!
So some plugins crash or hang the scanner and either it relaunch infinitely, or (more likely) some plugin never return. We just are just adding a "skip" button so that these plugins can be skipped in the scanning. Also we will make it visible which plugin is the problem.
Unfortunately we haven't yet found any plugins with this behaviour and are not able to reproduce it, but it we will make an update today with a likely fix.

The 'skip' button will not really resolve anything though other than leave some plugins unavailable. TBH I cannot remember if the previous version loaded the one that failed to load or not. It would be a backward step if suddenly stuff became incompatible.
Would it be an idea to find out which ones are failing to load, in order to
A) see if its always the same ones
B) find out if these loaded ok in the the previous version
In my case it was Predator

Version 0.7.1 is here:
http://jamorigin.com/midi-guitar/MIDI-G ... .1-Win.zip
http://jamorigin.com/midi-guitar/MIDI-G ... .1-Mac.zip
I think we have fixed the scanning problem. At least as a temporary solution. A few other bugfixes as well.
We will put back the "select a plugin file" option later if needed.

Hi, thanks for the quick response, but the problem I have now is that when I press the skip button, the scanning starts again from the beginning and eventually hits the problem VST (again), which makes the scanning process never-ending.JamOrigin wrote:Version 0.7.1 is here:

Mac version comming within few minutes...

Is there a way to continue the scanning when you press the skip button?

I noticed the cpu usage seems quite a bit higher (more than double I'd say). Is this something that will improve in later versions?
I am using six mono instances though, so I realise I'm probably more concerned about this than most...

Same scan restart problem. It seems to start to fail while scanning my Toontrack VST folder. When the failures start, the scanning process slows down a lot. Win7 Home Premium 64bit MIDI-Guitar standalone 64bit. ...It just crashed, I believe the Alchemy Player took it out.

It should blacklist those plugins that crash when they are opened, so they are not included in the next scan.JJunkie wrote:

Are you sure it hits the same VST again?
The general problem is that if some plugins freeze the scanner (for whatever reason) then there is no other ways to continue than to kill the scanning process. Right now its rescanning it all, but not the blacklisted ones. The better solution would be to rescan only those that haven't yet been found or blacklisted.

Energy XT/XTE and BlueCatAudio plugins are the problematic ones. For now I have moved them to another folder.
Scanning now completes, although Audjoo Helix couldn't load (but everything else did
)
Also, during scanning I got the following messages:
"Can't load module. 'Unkargherth SE Random'"
and
"Can't load module. 'Synthedit BPM Clock V2'"
