Ableton, all plugins cause *automation* pdc issues, very good discussion within.. lots of info!

True. But sometimes if #5 isn't what you want or doesn't work, then you need #1. #2-4 are to avoid thinking about #5.dusted william wrote: IMO only number 5 is necessary.

Hmmm I thought I tested that. Maybe I'm thinking of clip automation. I would have thought that works the same as automation. Anyways, those tenets I follow are so that I don't have to think about where in the plug-in chain anything is or what my total latency is because I know it's low. I want to move things at will and not think about what's automated etc. So I could be wrong about the automation. I though it depended on placement relative to latency inducing plug-ins.TheoM wrote:sorry but i can definitely call you wrong on the automation.
I just tested it. On track one i have an audio track with perfectly synced per beat volume tremolo automation.
on track 2 i add an affect with medium latency (this time a melda auto eq linear)
now the volume automation on track one sounds completely different. they are not even on the same signal path.
i'll try it on a per track basis, but regardless, what's on another track screws it up anyway. I think people need to understand.. the playhead, and ALL automation in live is delayed by the total plugin delay of all tracks, placed anywhere, ANYWHERE! this i can confirm 200%

I have not read the entire thread yet. Reading through right now. I have a question.
is this PDC stuff strictly for a effects?
or does this include instrument plugins?
meaning.. if you use instrument plugins with no effects? do you still get pdc issues?

Can anyone tell me just how bad the delay actually is?
Are we talking about a matter of a few seconds here?

Yeah, they should fix it. Just bother them with emails!

Maybe I'm just misunderstanding the problem, but I couldn't reproduce it. I'm testing on a Window 7 x64 laptop, running Live 9 through the built in audio with ASIO4ALL and a 512 buffer.
I added a drum rack and laid down a 4/4 kick drum pattern. Duplicated the track. On the duplicate, I started piling on the effects- standard Ableton effects, M4L effects, VST effects. The timing between the two tracks remained perfectly synced.
Any chance that someone could upload a project file using only included effects which clearly demonstrates the issue?

I think there's a lot of confusion with Live and PDC. PDC works just fine in Live. What doesn't work is PDC on automation, so if you're not using a lot of automation you should be fine...

oh, I get itTheoM wrote:i said playhead D
as in the cursor that scrolls over the parts.
yeah, that can get off and is not latency compensated, but I guess I have just learned to live with that aspect.
