So, basically, it's one giant bug. Glad I'm not a beta tester.

ok so, we all have seen the horrid track record of this company, we all have the feeling that we will see vanguard 2 before bitwig studio, so my question is, why in hell would anybody want to put themselves through that. i am 110 percent not going to support this company. not today, not tomorrow, not ever. who knows once they release 1.0 how long it will take for 1.0 to reach a stable version. because we all know v1.0 is often so unstable and buggy that it takes 1.5 to reach a stable state. this company lacks serious funding and it shows.

Beats me, but in all likelihood, some KVR members are beta testers. Hmmmmm....which ones have seemed extraordinarily grumpy in the past year or so?

I'm not going that far with you. I think that they don't have the right management. What I will say is that I "was" excited for the product but their announcement and beta test has set a few flags and now they are in the "evaluate cautiously" camp for me. Rather than being an early adopter I'll wait until 2.0 comes out with the modular environment and see whether it is competitive with whatever I'm using at the time. That will give me plenty of time to evaluate whether the long release wait was justified.

In reality, I doubt that It will swing me. I'm finding that I don't use MFL as much as I thought that I would. I'm very sensitive these days to time sinks that don't yield something that I consider valuable beyond diminishing returns. Well see, I guess that I'm just in a cool phase regarding music technology. I have enough to make music, in fact, too much, sale coming soon!

Well... and I'm not disagreeing with you actually.... here's the thing...

Assuming they release a demo, all of that will be moot. People will try the demo and evaluate it and if it works, many will buy it.

But I do agree with you in general. Management is by and large about perception and the perception here is that they severely misjudged something unless "soon" has a different meaning in another language. My guess (and it's purely a guess obviously) is that they've never run such a company, got personally excited about the product, and started hyping it publicly way too soon.

Or ... the year long hype machine was a fund raising excercise, to turn anticipation into investment.

If what they showed a year + ago was working, and they kinda implied that it was and it just needed beta testing, 1.0 should have been released a long time ago. If it wasn't actually working, they were hyping an alpha.

I cruise two areas of kvr nowadays. Hosts, and effects. Rarely do I do anywhere else. So, bitwig thread participation is mandatory. But I too have no actual interest in the product.

Post

My only interest is in design and feel. I'm a tech nut so I'll give the demo a go just to see how it feels.

For what I personally do I don't expect to be overly impressed but the EDM guys might have an orgasm, dunno. :)

Always amazes me the amount of ppl who join beta teams full of promises and cant deliver....
So, when I agree to beta something, I'm not agreeing to take on a part time job. I'm agreeing to use it in the way that I'm using my existing software and I'm agreeing to try out the new features as I would normally. If I encounter problems I'm agreeing to report the bugs and/or not complain if you capture logs from my usage.

If you want me to test YOUR software like I test MY software, then you MUST offer to pay me what my time is worth. In my opinion, beta testers are getting something of very limited value so to expect much from them is simply unrealistic. As a dev you should be gathering logs and you should be doing analysis of those logs to see what kind of coverage across different hardware/software configurations that you're getting as well as using them to help validate/refute known bug reports.

In short, I think that me offering to use your "buggy" software for a few weeks for nothing more than the privilege of using your "buggy" software for a few weeks is a great deal for you!

They ask, you offer. If you dont know how to test or what it involves, dont offer. It takes a lot longer than 'a few weeks'

You will usually get an nfr copy for your time.

Nobody is forced to test, although V1 can be regarded as a public beta. It will no doubt have minor bugs missed by small beta teams.

Nothing to be sorry for. Only 300? Hope you're as insulted as I'd be. Delete them all, but one. Reply (say in late August) saying you'll take their not-so-generous offer into consideration and will consult with your feline management team, but that you're fully booked into 2014 and at that time will grant them a 10 minute interview with your lawyer present.

Beta testing is a good ol' boys club 74.4% of the time. Find a bug, logged......someday when bad luck brian isn't on their minds, maybe someday get fixed.

Bitwig is a hoot!

BigWig is an Ableton product . We do know both parties have said and denied that it is Live 9 many years ago . :hihi:

That would be some awesome if true. Would make many in the antagonistic marketing sector take notice. Be your own competition, but screw it up. It's a formula for success.
