Quick wave editing question

Is there any way to delete a segment of a wave (not the beginning and end parts, but an arbitrary section in the middle), after which the two remaining parts are spliced together?

A "cut region" feature will be in 2.2, allowing for removal of the segment between start/end, keeping the fringes.
