"Unless specifically announced before the competition, you must use only one virtual synthesizer for all sounds including percussion."
How About:
"All sounds must be generated using the chosen virtual synthesizer for the given competition, unless specifically stated beforehand."

perhaps this is clearer?

Post

Yes! That would have prevented me from mistunderstanding that way i did ;)

Post

Hm yes I can see now how that definition might cause confusion, but imo the alternative you suggest Bjporter has seeds of confusion too as "generated" might be similarly alien to a newcomer and maybe also non-native English speaker.

Maybe just change out the "only one" with "only the chosen"? (although now I'm thinking chosen might also lead people to think there's a choice somewhere? )

Unless specifically announced before the competition, you must only use the chosen synthesizer for all sounds including percussion.

About preset sharing, it might be nice to collect many to fill up a dedicated One-Synth-Challenge bank, but I guess most want to be credited with their own stuff? Upload can be done anywhere of course, these are the most common:

Sounds good V'ger! :)

Has a good ring to it.

Post

Cheers, but mine was just a suggestion too. What say you Carl?

Post

Hm... I know that it is bad to write more and more words, but to avoid both misunderstandings (one instance per sound and choice of synth) I would suggest this wording:

Unless specifically announced before the competition, you must use only that virtual synthesizer for all sounds including percussion, which has been chosen for the current One-Synth-Challenge (by ...).

And one could add, that layering several instances is allowed. But I think, I would not have misunderstood this wording in the way I did. ;)

Post

How about:

All sounds must be "made" ....

OR

All sounds must be "produced" .....

OR

All sounds must be "synthesized" .....

Cheers

Speaking of which, shouldn't the OSC tracks for various synths be offered as demos of that specific synth to the developers?
I rarely see a synth with many good demos (especially free ones), and OSC's idea is exactly what would make a good synth demo.
Of course, the author of the track should be okay with submitting it as a demo, and the developer should have a website, but these difficulties could be easily overcome, and I think it would be nice to do it, as a little support towards the company (or guy) who made the synth. (sorry if I'm coming from the moon here - never actually seen this being discussed)

I just woke up to a little thought and minor concern.

What happens to my track on SC at the end of this challenge?
I'm guessing all these tracks get deleted from the SoundCloud page and are replaced with the Feldspar ones.
I have 53 amazing comments and >200 listens. 52 and 199 more than I ever expected.
I would be devastated to lose these :(
"I was wondering if you'd like to try Magic Mushrooms"
"Oooh I dont know. Sounds a bit scary"
"It's not scary. You just lose a sense of who you are and all that sh!t"

Hehe.

There are two groups in Soundcloud for OSC competitions. So Feldspar will be using the another group.
Even with that, here comes the best part, if you track is in your Soundcloud account, the comments are not deleted.
We are deleting the shared tracks, to explain better, what we delete is the link in our groups, but those tracks should be in your own account forever, so nothing is lost.

Nothing to worry about :)
Can you understand why we love Soundcloud so much? :hihi:

Have a nice day :)

Agree, the added line about multiple instances explains the best so why not just add it to make:

"Unless specifically announced before the competition, you must use only one virtual synthesizer for all sounds including percussion. Layering several instances of the synth is allowed. "

There has never been a procedure where songs are offered as demo songs to the developer, I just assume it will be requested if wanted, but maybe I'm wrong and they want that they be offered?

I'm always offering my tracks for free for the developers to use them as demotracks in their sites (specially if i win any first three places that i feel so happy).
In case they want it, they just could ask for it, in my side, i don't have any problem. :)
Maybe they are not interested at all, or the styles don't fit with their tastes or the idea for what the synth was made for, no idea.

I have learned that asking for anything when you want something, one always can reach their dreams and goals.
You have to knock on everyones door.

My two cents.

So devs. If anyone wants my tracks as demotracks in your site. Take it, it is free.

You had 46 all in one song/project? If not, and they were rendered out as seperate songs, and then later cut/merged together, I didn't think we were allowed to do that. Or maybe I am way off. :hihi:
I merged the projects, as I needed a seamless tempo change between the tracks (from 85 to 80 bpm), and to rebalance the levels (the second part was way too loud, in comparison with the first).

It's been a nice surprise to see that I could open both projects on Cubase, and copy the tracks from one project to the other one (I needed just to reload Podolski for each track, but the presets was recalled correctly).
