Just listening to your Vangelesque track, and the fretless is awsome :) ( Still have a M1 somewhere, I should probably use it more ) The global Space on your track is spot on. great ambiance :)

I especially like the bassline - smooth and dark. The track is good but I wish it were more minimal. You mentioned in the other thread that it was made from a soundbank. It sounds like you crammed in a lot of extra sounds in order to fully demo the soundbank which makes it pretty busy.

Yay! Its summertime.

Hi Frantz,

Interesting point. Yes, you're right, its a bit busy, and I think the main reason is the difference between the regular ChillOut/Lounge part, and the ambient bridge and outro. If it were not the demo of a soundbank, I could have used different instruments, and extend more the central part, to gradually rebuilt the tension and go back to the groove part ( that should have been developed in the second part also, but I had no time to really do it ). This is what is limited with soundbanks, you can only use one synth, and, even more, only use the presets of the bank, in thi case the soundbank made by another SD, so you're likely to be confronted to limitations should the piece become a bit complex. Thats why I choose to make short and abrupt transitions. But well, this is challenging as well.

The ambient/new age parts use many presets, when the chillout part only use one Key preset , the sparse bass and the lead, wich is chanting all around the track. Finding the right presets for the ambient part only took minutes, as there are many otherwordly patches in this patchset that it seemd everythin hat went Under my fingers could be usd to make "somethin special" , including the percussion line at the end of the ambient bridge, wich is kind of one finger groove preset.

All in all this short music clip really made me happy to celebrate the first sunny day we had in France for such a long time; Well it reflect well the feeling of that particular afternoon. ( + it just shows that I love presets éhéhéhé, made by another sound designer than me, and I was fully inspred by them )

It might be interesting to take off your sound designer hat once in a while and create a piece of music regardless of the sound sources.

Even in the initial section, I think there are unnecessary parts. For example, there is a rhythmic keyboard part hitting the 1st and 2nd beats along with the kick drums. I don't think that part is adding anything.

It has taken me years to figure out how to boil down my music to the essential parts. I spent a decade making busy, cluttered music because I wasn't sure of or confident in what I was doing.

Thanks Jethrobull. Bass works in contrast with the more or less str8 global rythm.

Well there's no such thing as some keys as you describe them actually, there's only one keys preset, and it makes it all. Its the track basis actually, and I morphed it in real time to make bar résolutions, transitions, etc.

Like a lot of simple chillout/lounge/evenregularfunky stuff this track just relies on the opposition and tension between elements that are on the beat, and elements that are more syncopated.

Sometimes essential and stripped down to skeleton is desired, sometimes power and busy, sometimes just inbetween. I dont see it as being confident or unsure of oneself, I connect it to the mood and emotion you're in. Or understanding your place when you're sessionning. YMMV.
