Don't worry, Fluffy, just take this bug which I don't think I've encountered yet, and consider it a feature! I kill for dead synths that don't work properly, just partially, to be able to get some very original sounds. I have a D50 board that doesn't work properly, maaan what sounds you can get from it!

It's a matter of perception, of course. Now I'm going to investigate the Dune bug.

Not to mention that I don't like the way the company gives away a pretty complete version of Dune for free via magazines. If I had paid xxx dollars or euros for it, I would simply feel pissed...


Yes, some bugs might lead to good results, though. I remember reading that the programmer of Sawer introduced errors, which ultimately lead to the good sound. Something like that...

Ah, love to see those cassettes Pure nostalgia I remember I had a totally transparent TDK reference cassette with solid metal chassis decades ago, that was one heck of a cassette...

Anyway, although I have had Charlatan on my PC for ages, I never really did anything with it. Just upgraded to the latest version and programmed my first Charlatan patch, an electric bass, what else would a bass player program first? When hitting those poor keys harder, it almost sounds a bit like slapping...

I read there is a known bug regarding the square waveform (some rain-like noise that should not be there), and despite knowing about it Synapse Audio won't remove that bug before version 2. I thought of getting Dune some time ago, but that behavior on the part of that company made me decide otherwise. I didn't want to pay so much money for a product that is known to be buggy. I hope owners of version 1 will at least get version 2 for free to compensate for that...

To be fair it's a pretty obscure "bug". You have to do several things together to even hear it if I remember correctly. It's not like you'll hear it on every patch.....which is why you don't see it mentioned often and why there are so many happy owners of DUNE.....myself included.

Hm this sounds weird indeed, given the simple setup I wonder why noone has brought this up in years. Anyhow, we'll make sure it won't happen in Dune 2 (which uses completely new VA oscillator code anyway, similar to the algorithms used in Antidote). In the current version we may have to live with this shortcoming, however, as bigger changes to the sound engine will almost certainly break some existing projects or patches (and there's many of them now).

Two things:

1) My free bank for Charlatan is out. I said I would release it on July 1 but I probably won't have time to do an audio demo before that date so it's out now.

So, are we now stuck with that red skin? Too bad for me

2) This is the recoloured skin I used when making that bank, which is a lot easier on the eyes for me.

I don't quite get the dev's stance on re-skinning Charlatan. I realize it's his baby, but it seems like it takes it to heart if someone wants a different skin for it.
