well done instrumental music .. I liked the ambiance and sounds

Post

2010 must have been a good year for ideas, I remember that from previous posts.
lush is the opening, then the lead sneaks in, a good contrast there. I like moods that build, they seem to have a much more visual vibe. all the elements come together well, the stage lights in full glory, a different colour for each synth. I thought the ending was just going to be a breakdown into the next build, so much interest was there, nicely done.

I've not had as much time as I'd like for music lately so have missed a lot. I'm really REALLY glad I didn't miss this one. First class work :hail:
It wasn't me! (well, actually, it probably was) - apparently no longer an 'elderly', now a 'senior'! Is that promotion?

I really like this as well, and was wondering what it reminded me of. I kept thinking Genesis for the lead sound / intro melody, but it was Steve Hackett!

2 Hackett references in one thread, and a Banks mention on the Cloud! I'm in Prog Heaven :D The next track has less form/definition.

Sometimes we all get a little too caught up in our own delusions. Twenty years ago, I was talented. Now, too many people are. The most flattering thing I can say about this song is "If I had written it, I would be very.very happy with myself". Good job. Very good job. Excellent, in fact.

How to make it better, as a recording?

When the arpeggiated synth(?) comes in it seems "separate" from the rest of the instruments. Maybe a blending reverb would help?? The original synth line that travels around my head is good. But as the songs goes on, the instruments mainly seem congested in the centre. Yes, there are things happening left and right, but the mix still seems very centred, almost as if the panned instruments are not enough to create a wide stereo image. Maybe experiment more with reverb and delays. From what I can recall (it's been 2 minutes now!) the arrangment created vertical space (different instruments in different frequencies) but the mix lacks depth (front to back dimension) and width (left to right).

Keep writing.

Thanks very much for listening and for the comments, Paul. Glad you liked it :)

I'm not sure about blending that arp with the other two synths. I might revisit that idea next time I remix this. I had a quick attempt at adding reverb a few weeks ago, but it didn't seem to sit very well with the delay already on there.

When I started out upon my musical journey, I occasionally used to go a little overboard with the panning. Afterwards I reined it in almost to the point of extreme conservatism. I think you are right about this. I shall try to focus on more width in my next couple of tracks and see how that goes.

The comments about lack of depth are valid too. I am a novice with reverb, and still haven't yet figured out a setup that will give me a convincing "depth of field". I do intend to look at this in the future. I think I'll deal with the panning aspect first because it will be easier for me to get some tangible results, and it will probably give any applied reverb a better chance of achieving some perceived depth

Again, thanks for the helpful comments :)
