I think they said you had to demo rayblaster to get it free and you had to post what preset was your favorite. I downloaded the demo of firebird it seems okay. They have a lot of preset banks for sale so if they give it away as a free synth and people buy more presets they do make money.

I released 'Wireless' just back in November - http://www.tradebit.com/filedetail.php/ ... ection-100Numanoid wrote:Mabye some more patches for Firebird will be a result of this, I hope so
If this releasing of the Firebird causes sales to go up, I might do a 2nd set, I still like that synth despite it's limitations.

Well crap I was going to sell my Firebird license but I guess that won't happen now......

Downloaded the sample files. By the way I only have the demo can your presets load up in the demo. If you don;t know that is okay I will try to test it out the hard way and post answer here.Perimeter Sound wrote:I released 'Wireless' just back in November - http://www.tradebit.com/filedetail.php/ ... ection-100Numanoid wrote:Mabye some more patches for Firebird will be a result of this, I hope so

I don't actually know for sure, but I can't imagine why they would not work in the demo.yessongs wrote:Perimeter Sound wrote:Downloaded the sample files. I took part on the FB contest and got my Firebird license. After that I had lots of fun with this little beast. Don't underestimate this. But because of the lack of information about the components and how to use them (very short manual) most people won't get the most out of it. And that's a shame. Tone2 did an exceptional job with this one. Unfortunately due really cool updates but not a properly updated manual a lot of the new content and their differences is missing and it's up to the user to explore them.
And the lack of good proper reviews of course.
Damn, the oscillators sound really nice and fat. The unison sounds best at 2/0-10 & 4/0-10 (so not that much detuned, at least for me) but the mono mode is pretty damn powerful.
It took me quite some time to get all those correlations in the osc section. The mod, playmode and loopspeed. Not everything works together and some of the mod features are pretty wiered and you have to think about them for a second.
My advice: disable everything but osc 1 on this synth and start with the waveforms from top to bottom. After that use either loopspeed: zero (static), the slowest one or 0.5 and a pretty fast one. Change modify to Multi:Flange or Multi:Hyper (both 1 & 2)and test them on different loopspeed and playmode (!!!). This will reveal a lot of it.
To understand the different loopmodes and speeds even further (and especially both modify modes SQUEEZE: SHRINK and SQUEEZE: SPREAD) use one of the vocal waveforms. Play it once with everything disabled and after that step through all those options. This should demistify most of it. And of course "oneshot" mode. Try it on the PD waveforms forward and backward. And use the THIN modes on all basic static waveforms and listen if and how the harmonics change. Lots of fun guys. Definitely some deep stuff inside and not a toy or a "trance synth". Lots of lowend if programmed correctly.
The filter sound all great. Most of them have real character and all sound different. I love especially the 4 pole Moog LP Noise filter and the classic Analog one (that one sounds dirty !!!). The brickwall type is cool too. And the M-shape. And the low eq thingy and the 30 db lp or the LP with "tuned" harmonics for cool resonance sweeps ... I could go on and on. But be careful with additional distortion. Though it really helps sometimes esp. on the analog LP. It's a joy to look at a spectrum analyzer while playing with the different filters on different resonance settings..
The LFO is tricky. Some of the waveforms make no sense in the beginning but after diggin deeper into it you will realize how to use them for a specific mod source.
The "Free Tri" so far is the only one that looks like running free all the time. All others reset with gate in. So if you plan to use the inbuilt arp device and need some "ongoing modulaton" choose this one.
The env could sound really snappy but handling of those knobs drives me mad sometimes.
The arp is a cool feature and reveals pretty quick results. Very funky if you know how to use it other than "in trance gate mode". I love the "gate modus". Chord modus is fun too.
FX quality varies. Surprsingly the HQ reverbs sound pretty good especially the third one. Keep in mind: I am talkng about a synth reverb not inbuilt valahalla dsp. It does a great job on this. I struggle with the delays most of the time because of lack of proper labeling (it only displays the function and not the value) and channel switching. I don't use most of the other fx because all chorus & phaser stuff does more harm than helps to those already fat sounding oscillators.
And I have not even talked about how to abuse the analog feature or the nice up to 32 voice setting, mod wheel support, different quality modes, some wiered harmonic correction thingy, the absolutely funky glide function in mono mode...
If this one hits the freebie scene this will be one of the top notch synths out there even if it's already a few years old. Looks like a child, sounds like a man.

Sebastian

Yep, Firebird is an incredible synth! The only Tone2 synth that I've ever been into. Genius plug. Plus, all the skin options are awesome!Halma wrote:I took part on the FB contest and got my Firebird license. After that I had lots of fun with this little beast. Don't underestimate this.
