Hi,

are you working on AAX for ProTools?
I would really love to use the EQs in this DAW.

Hi Ollie,

it has been postponed actually, still waiting for Avid's response. I'll check the situation, but quite frankly Avid's attitude doesn't make me very interested in spending time with them... Last time I have seen news, that people need to upgrade to new SDK and there will be necessary code changes... Seems like way too much work for just one dying host, whose developer should rather just implement a standard interface...

Sorry to be so negative :D...

The reason I ask is that your EQs with spectrogram view are absolutely amazing for audio post work. Especially removing unwanted camera noises with notch filters is something that cannot be done quicker and easier than with your EQs I believe.
While i would agree that PT might have lost the DAW race for small and medium sized music production I still see a huge market share in the audio post world. I suppose you could sell a couple of EQs to that market. But if it's too much hassle it might still not be worth it.

I'm in the same boat as Ollie. I find your your EQs and dynamics to to be indispensable for my post and sound design work. I don't use them nearly as much as I'd like because my main host is PT, and thus I jump through hoops just to MEQLinearPhase (Best.EQ.On.The.Market), either by using Maschine or Plogue Bidule as an intermediary or by temporarily opening my audio in another host to do my Melda tweak and then back to PT. The likelihood of me ever using anything else as my main host is, at this moment, fairly low. PT is a lot like MS Word: it's bloated, aging, does too much not every well... but it's raw audio editing capabilities are par none in my book.

Edit footsteps in Logic? HAH!
Clean up and catalog 30 minutes of me dropping concrete blocks on a pile of grass in Ardour? Not if you paid me (too "Arduous").
Easily mix-and-match sessions with another sound designer using Reaper? Maybe... if it ran consistently well day-to-day and didn't require JACK (Jack's Audio Clock is Krap).
Nuendo? Don't get me started... (beta-testing the original pre-release version left a horrible and permanent stain in my feelings for it and Steinberg)

Avid and PT may be struggling either financially or in the small-studio market, but there are still 5H1TL04D5 of users out there who have no toolset bundle that comes close to comparing to Melda. I'd hope that that large base of hungry users might be enticing enough to put in the work, but it seems it isn't

Don't worry... I'm disappointed, true, but I'll keep jumping through the hoops for you (better that than to try using McDSP or Waves for anything detailed)

But it's not a blame! It's a pure fact, that Avid for the whole decades wasn't able to implement a single widespread plugin standard. Period. They rather let FXPansion create a wrapper. I can only guess why...

Thank you folks!

I'll try to rush it, but so far any attempts to work with Avid was a pure disappointment. First the RTAS "SDK", which I shouldn't rather even talk about (before someone gets angry, despite it's just a well known truth). AAX looks promising, but first it was crashing inside it, then in next version they even removed the necessary project files, so it wasn't usable at all... After reporting, silence... It's just sad... Such barely surviving host would be assumed to try, at least. But I guess they just get too much money from the VST->RTAS wrapper... Who knows, I don't understand them.

I feel your pain dealing with Avid. :-o

Meanwhile, if you reach appoint where you need beta-testers for any aax implementation you might do... I'd be more than happy (let's say, eager/ excited) to give it a whirl... :D

Currently there is no aax version for Waves. Meldaproduction could be a direct alternative for Waves... and I think a lot of post production people would like to use Meldaproduction in Pro Tools.

Pro Tools has been used by many users a long time... it is a very big market. Perhaps it does not look like because that users a not in musicforums every minute.

I hope Melda aax is coming very soon.

p.s..: Maybe Avid is a uncooperative company, but it's your turn to fight for us users, and not at least for yourself! :band2:

...perhaps this helps:

"Pro Tools has had a vibrant community of plug-in developers for over 20 years and it is constantly evolving. Over the past few weeks alone, the momentum of developers porting products to AAX is massive. If you come across a VST plug-in that is not available on AAX, we encourage you to put the developer in touch with us to get on board. We offer a full range of support materials and services for developers who want to make this transition and you may refer them directly to me at ed.gray@avid.com."

Meanwhile, my favorite purchase in the past month lets me use Melda plugs (AU and VST) in PT 10+ as wax:

Really, this is all I ever wanted. Now I can go back to being perfectly content, relying on my Melda tools as always. :D
