That is the point. If their stuff does not phone home, nor change any Windows files, then all they needed to do is say so affirmatively.
There are things a good piece of software should simply not do if the makers don't want it to be considered spyware or worse.

I took part in the discussion which was leading to Tone2 leaving KVR.fluffy_little_something wrote:That is the point. If their stuff does not phone home, nor change any Windows files, then all they needed to do is say so affirmatively.

Personally i have no interest to continue that discussion which IMO was full of BS posted by several people.
I am quite sure that Tone2 will not publish details about their copy protection and AFAIK the only people that ever had "problems" (intended ones...) with the copy protection were people that had one or more illegal Tone2 licenses on their computer (and AFAIK no internet connection is necessary for that).
That's it from me concerning that topic.

Well, people running away from conflicts are a bit suspect to me...
I am sure they are still reading on KVR, anyway. There is not much point in a Tone2-only board, it is a bit like inbreeding

Mostly only if i point them to certain threads like this one...fluffy_little_something wrote: I am sure they are still reading on KVR, anyway.
A while ago I had talked with Markus personally (at the phone) and he had his reasons for that step. Speculations are not helpful, especially if you did not take part of the discussion that took place before they left KVR.fluffy_little_something wrote:Well, people running away from conflicts are a bit suspect to me...

I think the majority of people will be using their software, rather than discuss their copy protection details on the internet...fluffy_little_something wrote:Well, people running away from conflicts are a bit suspect to me...

Yes, I suppose you only opened this thread with their consent
While I do not know what to think of that company and their protection system, I must admit that when I was considering buying Saurus for the first time, that mere discussion did keep me from doing so. Just to be on the safe side, so to speak...

Again wrong. I informed them about this thread around 2 days ago. The thread is already older. I started it when i had seen the announcement at the forum, without asking for it.fluffy_little_something wrote:Yes, I suppose you only opened this thread with their consent

About Saurus:
Many people do love it (including me which should be widely known at KVR...) and have never experienced ANY problem with it which includes the copy protection.
I have already told it before but i repeat it:
I am NO official coworker of Tone2 and i get NO money for posting in this forum.

Seriously guys... Tone2 is giving away a damn fine synth and this thread is (again) being hijacked by Copyprotectionists. Let's take it from a totally different perspective. EVEN IF (and I'm not 100 percent it does) Tone2 software calls home to check its validity:
1) A WHOLE LOT of software I own calls home for one reason or the other. Personally I hate that which is the reason why I...
2) Block everything I don't accept in my firewall. It's that easy.

Not to forget that the free Firebird will have no copy protection at all.
The only thing related to "calling home" is the logo which in the past directly opened the Tone2 website. In the updated version there will appear a dialog box that asks if the website should be opened or not (like with the newer Tone2 products).

Well, when there was already a public announcement, things are different of course. The announcement is the permission so to speak.
I believe you that there are no problems with the protection system, but that is not really the point I suppose. It is simply about whether or not their software does anything to people's computers that they don't like for whatever reason.
Especially now with this spying scandal one can't be careful and paranoid enough
I also remember the little fallout with U-he
Would be interesting to know how well their stuff sells, even better one of those market share diagrams for all major synth plugins

Like i already already mentioned only people with illegal Tone2 licenses should expect trouble with the copy protection and AFAIK no internet connection is needed for that...fluffy_little_something wrote: I believe you that there are no problems with the protection system, but that is not really the point I suppose. For example when installing and using Saurus on my notebook i had turned the internt off but everything worked fine.
If you ever installed a full version of a Tone2 synth you would see that the installation could take quite quite long which means it takes a while before the files are actually installed (same with internet off). Got an idea?
