Heavier than expected Synthmaster usage in Cubase 7 x64

This is not a real problem, this is a puzzle.

I was working on a piece with 1 instance of Synthmaster 2.6 at highest quality in Cubase 5 x 64.

The rest of the synth bank included 6 other instances of synths, mainly NI and 5 audio tracks.

In the VST Performance meter it read around 20% (you can't get a real number out of that.) Surprising, because with all those synths stacked up, I would have expected higher.

I just moved over to Cubase 7 x 64, opened the same piece and was surprised to see that the VST performance meter peaking at over 30%. When I did a routine check by adding/removing instruments, removing Synthmaster lessened the VST Performance load to under 25% on the meter. I checked the other synths, but none of them seem to add so much to the VST Performance.

Basically this shows that one instance of Synthmaster adds 20% to the processing load in C7.

Changing the quality did not seem to affect the results much.

Cubase 7 may be less tolerant of CPU-intensive plug-ins like Synthmaster. Cubase 7 eats more resources on its own than previous versions. This aren't real numbers because you cant ge't real numbers out of those Cubase meters.

It's something I will need to be aware of when recording, I probably will need to be more careful when using multiple instances of Synthmaster, but it will not affect my use of your product. I'm still learning it.

Do you have any ideas why the load went up so high between the two versions?

I'd ask, "how does xyz DAW calculate cpu load and what does cpu load really mean?"
