Freeware dubstep set up?

My dubstep sounds are pretty sad. Commercial dubstep like Skrillex makes me feel alive. My dubstep just puts me in a trance. Is there a way to get those soaring to sharp pitch shifts smoothly mixing with what sounds like formant, bitcrush, buffer override, and granulation without having Massive, Reaktor, and a Kaos pad? I use Tracktion, so I have a modular environment.
I can't justify spending money on dubstep, as friends and family aren't as keen on it as I am. It also seems like it'd be hard to make the money back, as dubstep is posted all over the internet.

These haven't been updated in a while, but if you're on PC (mac) you could get some use out of these: http://www.dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.p ... 3318b18c7c
Truth be told, if you want the Massive sound, get Massive and be done with it (I messed around for ages trying to get by without it and ended up jest getting it eventually, was totally worth it).
Found this on YT as well (the guy doesn't really say much about what the synths do function wise, but you get the gist):

I've been using Itchy mainly for the wub. It's all that other wonkiness I'm finding difficult to achieve.GeorgeZ wrote:These haven't been updated in a while, but if you're on PC (mac) you could get some use out of these: http://www.dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.p ... 3318b18c7c

In the comments for the Itchy demo song, someone asks "what did u use for the talking bass?". Dude replies, "Oh I just used Massive."
So, I'm close with the bass, I just can't get the effects mix right for the rest of that stuff I mentioned. It's so hard to put into words.
BTW, what happened to KVR automatically embedding the video?

curve2 by cable guys (there's a CM version with CM magazine) and Synthmaster (CM version as well) on cheap
CM versions are capable and will give you DS essential sounds
easy programming, with cool control of LFOs and stuff

That's exactly the problem. With sample reduction you often loose a lot of bottom end. With Massive you're getting your vowel sound from skipping forward and backwards (and using some filtering) over the OSC waves.
BTW, you might want to look into FM as well. All the dubstep tracks on my SC uses FM (like seriously, nothing there, not one sound is Massive). This one's got a few low growls etc... all FM:

I have the CM Curve. Do you know how to make it a sonic dubstep pallet?bronxsound wrote:curve2 by cable guys (there's a CM version with CM magazine) and Synthmaster (CM version as well) on cheap

I've been trying to use different set ups for different notes. There's so much variation in those solos. I would guess something like Kaos pad or Lemur is being used. Do you know how I can get something like that using only free software?

Oh yea, that's the other synth people say to buy. Nice job with the song. I can hear some of the sounds I wish to use. However, I'd like to be able to do this with freeware. It seems there should be some way to arrange and control effects for these sounds.GeorgeZ wrote: BTW, you might want to look into FM as well

I've got experiments everywhere. Once I get this down, I'll already have a 12" on the hard drive.GeorgeZ wrote:Doing it with FX is possible, and yes, doing it with free ware is definitely also a go, but it'll take some experimentation

So, Massive + FM8 = $460 and Komplete = $500
Well, there's something to put on my new solid state computer...when I win the lottery and buy one. Let's see. I'm averaging about $10.00 a month thrifting. If I abstain, then in a few years... Actually, I could probably afford all that and a Galaxy Note 10.1 if I eBayed all the stuff I've thrifted. I tell my family it's life insurance.

One thing that helps all basses sound more aggressive is a multiband distortion. I use the free MDA bandisto. Usually I slightly saturate the lows, and really distort the kids and highs. Then I give a slight boost to the volume of the lows and highs for some meatiness. There are good free FM synths around, like Oxe FM and FM four.

good news for you is that massive and fm8 are part of Komplete.
not being a dub step expert: fm and extensive lfo control matrix is what you need
however, sound is only part of DS i guess. FXing plays as same or even bigger role in this style. glitch, effectrifix, turnado, stutter edit, traktor 12 may be of big value in this case if you are too lazy do all the tricks by hand

No, I'm not too lazy. I just need some instructions. Know where I can get some? The only instructions I can find are "Use a preset in Massive." I'm looking for a dubstep effects settings and routing tutorial.bronxsound wrote:good news for you is that massive and fm8 are part of Komplete.

I don't know if I'll ever understand FM synths, but I do understand modulation matrices. What do you suggest?
Maybe my previous posts weren't clear. I don't have Komplete, Massive, nor FM8.
BTW, Bing has just hijacked my browser again. Microsoft is a virus. I think I got it last night looking for Heizenbox suggested in this thread http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=176063 . Don't go to the Heizenbox site. It's no longer legit. Anyway, this thread from 2007 is about the "leaving the Matrix" sound. I had no idea what dubstep was then, but that's a sound I'd still like to achieve for dubstep.
