Couldn't find a thread for general discussions about this instruments so here is fresh thread.

I'm just getting into MachFive 3, checking out all the synthesis methods and endless possibilities, here is a first experimental track combining some tubular windchime samples which I recorded the other day with a FM synth. Everything you hear is 100% MachFive.

Definitely going to happen!

Very interesting, and I'm quite interested by Mach Five as well as a sound design tool. Really sucks there's no demo. It's quite an expensive 'guess'.

Simon, just for the granular synthesis part only, how would compare Mach Five VS Padshop?

Oh, and definitely a needed thread.

Time to dust of MachFive...

Very glad to hear that!

If somebody would ask me the high points of Mach5 I would say:

1. The IRCAM oscillators
2. Unlimited oscs and layers for super complex patches and splits
3. The effects are very good and there is lot's of them. Well some bad ones too.
4. Script processor offer wild sound desing possibilities not possible in other synths.
5. Lot's of different filters. Maybe not the most analog sounding ones but on the other hand some special choices like formant and Oberheim expander filters.

etc.

Mach5 is really deep and versatile sound desing tool. I wish there would be more soundbanks not only samplesets per se.

The best granular engine around currently is in Halion 5, which uses the extended PSP engine and also plays multisamples/round robin/velocity layers. The granular engine in MachFive sounds good, but every grain starts with a fade in which currently sucks, especially when using large grainsizes (up to 500 ms) because there is alway silence at the beginning of a sample. But I hear that the developer is working on something to improve it :)

Thanks for your input. So, do you prefer Padshop's granular synthesis over Mac 5?

Yes, I do.

Hmmmm... I'm still interested by Mach 5, looks like a really nice instrument for pure sound design and experiments! Thanks again Simon.

M5 is far more than just the granular engine, the combinations of all the elements is it's main strength imo.

yes given Mach5 is iLok I cant see why they would not provide a demo...I agree - rather an expensive guess and I would like to try it...

Simon,

I think if you continue posting demos you will definitely kill my mind :)

i don't have any sampler yet (ecept the one in live and new sonic arts nuance)

i don't like kontakt, it's (in my opinion) more for pure composers not for "sound designers" (me ..) but maybe i'm wrong

i don't know what to choose wetween halion & machfive ....

I think the IRCAM timestretch algo is one of the best I've heard so far, hardly any artifacts with extreme stretching, it's a CPU killer though :)

Testing MachFive's IRCAM Timestretch with a simple Duduk phrase from one of my libraries. Demo starts with the dry Duduk phrase. All FX are MachFive (Overdrive, Ensemble (automated with the Modwheel), Delay and the really good sounding Spark Reverb, also one of the best onboard reverbs I've heard so far.
