Those are both due to my user style, yes. If you want avatars back just edit the stylesheet and delete

First block gets rid of stuff I'm not interested in. You might want to edit what's killed...
Second and third blocks make the remaining content go wider.

Now the background is a flat colour I'm much happier, though the prevalence of icons is still a little annoying. I did kind of prefer KVR without avatars as people got judged entirely by what they wrote and how they wrote it, not some dinky icon which influences people's perception of character due to the way the human brain works. Still. Times they are achanging blah blah. Now if only it would expand horizontally to fill my 1280x1024 monitor...

Thank you Farlukar, this stylish code lifts some strain off my poor eyes... I even started to get used to the blue, but moving it out feels good.
