Hello Guys,

This is one of my first posts on kvr. Im amazed by zebra

I am trying an attempt to reconstruct a specific Rhodes piano sound with Zebra2. I was referred to this section of the forum by some helpful guys. I need some help from an expert zebra designer here...

There is a sound in logic pro 9 VST EVP88 - preset "bright suitcase". Kind of a Rhodes Piano

I am trying to recreate that sound and learn more about the capabilities of Zebra2 in the process.

In the preset Bright suitcase: Pressing the key harder makes the harsch. I think the low cutoff or distortion is reacting to it. My first guess is the velocity of zebra is modulating it

Second the Bright suitcase has, my guess, two waveforms. One is a sine wave and another one( which i cannot figure out or how to make it in Zebra2). I notice that when i press harder the second waveform opens up. Keeping it pressed slowly morphs it to the sine wave.

The Enveloppe somehow has zero attach - and zero release. Keeping it pressed the sound slowly decays to zero.

Is anyone able to help me with this challenge. Maybe someone here is like "I can do that in 5 min. while drinking my morning coffee". If so then please step in.

Anybody?

greetzzzz

Sien

Yeah... the reason why I didn't post before was that I'm not familiar with EVP88 at all... I simply heard of it so yeah..

anyway, thanks hollo for chiming in, hopefully the patches would be helpful. :)

@hollo I already downloaded these patches i think yesterday. I have tried them out as well

@3ee Those patches are awesome. You should make more of them.

Did they help you answer your question?

@pdxindy
The patches are great giving me clues how to set up rhodes piano. But the bright suitcase preset of the EVP88 vst has a specific sound

When i compare the ladybug 73 dark to the bright suitcase:
- Eveloppes are similar
- the waveform morphs from one to another shape as the sound decays. I think in the Ladybug the XMF is causing this.
- When I Increase the Velocity of the XMF(mod. the cutoff) I get a similar result as the bright suitcase. When hitting harder the cutoff opens more so the sound gets louder and harsher.
- I do not understand why the ring1 and ring2 are added in the ladybug or the VCF4 at the bottom.
- The tune of the FMO3 is modulated by the MSEG to give that distinct pitched click sound that rhodes pianos have in the attack of the sound. The OSC2 is also added to give harmonics to the attack I think

I hope that makes sense!

I kinda have the feeling you guys haven't heard the bright suitcase of the EVP88 before. So its kinda difficult for you guys to help me,. Wish you could hear it. Im kinda curious for your interpretations.

Check out this Sound On Sound / Synth secrets article:

http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/Nov02/a ... ts1102.asp

It's about recreating a regular piano sound, based on some old Roland patches. Using a synth the result will not be an ideal piano, but it does work as the basis for a quite convincing electric piano.

Peace,
Andy.

for subtle harmonic punchy richness...
just mute the other lanes to hear them in action, then mute them instead to try to hear what's missing.

Maybe bringing the X1 performance control to max will help better notice the difference.

Yes I tried muting lane one and two to hear just the ring1 and ring2. I could hear it was added to add harmonics to the attack. I think there cool sounds and whoever has made the presets has done a very good job :hihi:
