XMF overload problem

I am deconstructing preset called HS Burn Popcorn from i think zebrasonix.

The is an XMF1 in the preset with full overload. Makes the sound really loud.

I am trying to build that patch up from scratch, but in my version the overload makes the sound thinner. What is the reason for this. I have copied all settings from the XMF. LP4, Single, same, XMF etc etc.

Anyone know the reason?

Osc1/Output volume?

Be sure to check if you are in 2.3 mode or 2.5 mode. The Overdrive would get excessively loud in the 2.3 algorithms but was improved greatly in the 2.5 ones to be more controlled.

Well I have both the (A)preset and (B) my version running at the same time in logic. Then to test it i went to my version (B) and loaded HS Burn Popcorn in it. And yea...overload worked like it does in (A).

Now when I reconstruct it again in (B) frum scratch then the XMF gets thin again.

@soundpalace: In one instance of zebra2 I tried both the preset and my version. How could it be a mode issue then? can you explain?

@Hollo: I checked the volume under the mixer tab of the osc and also the volume of the lanes under the main grid

The mode is actually stored as part of the preset. just right click on the preset name at the top of the plugin to change between 2.3 mode and 2.5 mode. :)

If you disable the XMF on both versions do they sound the same?

Is there any oscillator effects active?

Also is there some effects in Zebra that are affecting the sound?

@Nig: When i disable both XMF the sound is exactly the same that is how i knew it was the XMF. I disabled all effects during testing too

@soundpalace: You are right. After switching to 2.3 mode the overload was more prominent. Makes me wonder why a newer version makes the sound thinner. The algo-r must have a purpose. Why an overlad that would overload less?

Thnks for your helps. Do these topics need to be closed properly?

Thnks for the help you guys. If there is something I could do in return holla at me let me know

The 2.3 version had some wild volume variations so was hard to modulate... the 2.5 version is more controlled and useable, but the 2.3 version had its good quality, thus it is still in there

"HS" is a clue that it's not from Zebrasonix ;-)

Yeah, my initials aren't HS, I think Howard has those on lockdown. :hihi:

Glad to hear the problem was resolved though, with a synth as complex as Zebra (and those all too often accidental midi learns) it can be tough to get to the bottom of things sometimes. :)

@Pdxindy well its true. I enjoy the 2.3 overload. Thnks for the explanation. Makes me get in touch with Zebra2 more. I feel a bond already...:)

@Howard I'm sorry if i offended you. My apologies. HS must refer to your name then. Well you must feel some pride that a newbie like me is using your creations to understand Zebra2 :)

@Perimeter sound Im glad its solved too. I have to say its much better to just ask here and get the answer. It was looking for hours until i got the courage to ask it in the u-he section here at KVR. I wanted to make sure i wasnt making an obvious mistake. I would never have seen the 2.3 and 2.5 button hidden there.

There must be many more reasons to switch between 2.3 and 2.5. Not just the overload right? Can I read them somewhere?

In any case thanks for your responses guys.

Some of the other filters sound different in 2.5... I never create new presets anymore using 2.3 mode... 2.3 mode is there primarily so that older presets still sound the same. I recommend sticking to 2.5 for preset design.
