Tone2 Firebird going Freeware

Hey I just got the email from Tone2 with a link to the Freeware version (Windows 32-bit only IIRC).

I've owned Firebird since ... uh .. I don't even remember, before I was using Gmail apparently. It's an awesome synth with its own sound, and while I'm bummed that it won't be updated anymore, I'm glad that everyone will get to the opportunity to use it.

I received it too.

Royal pity they didn't fix the very weird behaviour that causes Firebird to shut all voices each time GUI opens.

Very nice synth with character, anyway.

Yeeha! Just yesterday i wondered when it'll be released. Thanks Tone2! I already own Firebird, but as they say they improved the engine, i'll be installing the new version.

Had the demo hope there is a lot more in the way of presets for this synth than was in the demo because the demo was very light on presets but I guess guys will be developing their own here and we will see those as well since that is what we KVR users do. Right? Probably ought to prepare for this being the next OSC synth. Wonder if tone 2 will cough up some free synths to give to winners? If so make it Rayblaster.

There should be 4 factory banks which you could select from "load factory bank" at the "setup" menu.

This from the newsletter about the free Firebird:

New features and enhancements:

- Enhanced sound: Less aggressive treble, more smooth
- Ultra quality is selected by default
- Lower CPU because of SSE2 support
- Faster loading and saving of songs
- Smart installer which automatically detects the correct location
- Enhanced host compatibility
- Accidently visiting the website by clicking on the logos is not longer possible
- Reworked some graphics
- First patch was clipping in some hosts

Changes:

- The product is now freeware
- Keyfile is not longer required
- Iqm is switched to off by default

Further notes:

- V2.0 is downward compatible with previous versions
- CPU can reduced by selecting a lower quality in 'setup'
- For technical reasons there will be no 64 bit or Mac version
- You're allowed to share Firebird2 with all your friends
- If you like Firebird please support us by buying other Tone2 products

I want to add my thanks as well. I like Firebird...the sound, the GUI, that it runs on my older laptop! IMO, it has joined Synth1, Zebralette, et.al., in the pantheon of great free synthesizers...

even if only 32Bit.

For the record this is the + version right ? I don't remember what was added in the plus version but I seem to remember paying for an upgrade to it many years ago.....added waveforms etc I think.

loading banks I find available here does nothing other presets in fxp format load but not fxb's I use sonar x1 and I am on win 8.
