First impression is that this is a very good comp. Haven't had the time to really try it out, but I have the feeling that it will fit bass, vocals and overheads really well.
On my wishlist: the Api 550b eq! The workflow, curves and freq selection is so good when mixing at a fast pace.

Hi
Plus one for the API2500, it's FANTASTIC for EDM and would be an instant purchase for me.
The only one on the market as far as I know is the Waves one and I have no interest in buying into Waves. It's sounds great, but is getting a little old in the tooth. I'm sure with some dedication and more up to date modelling and processing grunt, IK could rinse the Waves fairly easily.
I also agree that Equilibrium has made any other plugin EQs redundant for me for the foreseeable future. Whack Klanghelm's IVGI after Equilibrium, pure magic!
Cheers

I once thought I had mono for an entire year. It turned out I was just really bored...

Waves are not the only one that created API clones.
Another company that comes to mind, is URS. But that's probably "too outdates" as well. And Line6 has an API built into their PodFarm software.
If I go by a guide by an excellent emulation-list fellow, there's even PSP Audioware with an "esque" EQ. And, don't forget the UAD engine, LiquidMix and Nebula.
Furthermore, I wouldn't count the API as "ideal for EDM" - it's just one among many EQ designs that get the job done in a fast manner. It's not genre-bound.

Hey Compy
I was referring to the API2500 compressor though. Not many (if any) emulations of that in software, bar the waves.
In my opinion and a fair few others, the API2500 is to 4/4 dance music what the SSL4000 is to rock and breakbeat styles.
As you point out, there are loads of API style EQs in software form though
Cheers

Sorry, but the only compressor I consider being a rock legend, is the DBX. It just happens to be the SSL4k "desk" that was talked up and down for rock and pop stuff.
Someone started that nonsense as SSL being the "de-facto" standard, while totally disregarding that there are other companies (not necessarily NEVE) as well, that are just as suitable for "the" or any job for that matter.
Like: Toft/Trident, DDA (haven't seen a clone of that company), ADT Audio, TL Audio, Neumann (again), Siemens (again!!!), ... just to name a few.
No, it's always the brit consoles: NEVE and SSL. Maybe even also the US API console. But German consoles? Nah! The German consoles were never important *pft!*
Like... it's not like German hardware was ever an influence of/for the Abbey Road REDD and TG console. What the hell am I thinking?!

Well, certainly no shortage of SSL compressor emus in software, that's for sure.
And whether rightly or wrongly, it seems many turn to them for master bus duties for rock, breakz and Drum n Bass etc.
Anyway, I'm not interested in IK making any more SSL compressor emulations, I would like an API2500. They are a popular choice for mastering, are extremely flexible and provide great and robust master compression for 4/4 stuff in particular.
If I had the cash to spare right now I would get the hardware or maybe a Foote Control Systems P3S which has similar flexibilty. Or maybe a Cranesong STC-8 even.
In fact if IK emulated any of these I would be a happy camper

Popular by who?djscorb wrote:Anyway, I'm not interested in IK making any more SSL compressor emulations, I would like an API2500. They are a popular choice for mastering, are extremely flexible and provide great and robust master compression for 4/4 stuff in particular.
Personally I don't consider ANY compressor a "mastering" device. It's just another tool for limiting the dynamics, or having a simpler control over audio fluctuations.
The only hardware "I" consider a Mastering Device (Compressor/Limiter), is the Waves L2 Hardware (now the MaxxBCL) - and that one was one of the many reasons why we have overcompressed sh*t these days.
Again, see my comment above. Though I would consider the Cranesong more suitable for mastering. But it's still coloring. And for mastering, I need clean devices.djscorb wrote:If I had the cash to spare right now I would get the hardware or maybe a Foote Control Systems P3S which has similar flexibilty. And for this... I can use whatever really good digital stuff is around these days.
Again, please give me more channel strips/EQs from consoles that noone uses rather than the usual suspects. This would add to the variety. That, and finish the collection with a DBX at least, and maybe a Distressor later.
Until then, I'm happy with what I have and rather wait for upgrade paths.

Maybe throw in some AVALON gear?

Well here we go with complaints again...
My 3-DAY, 72-HOUR demo has expired on Precision Comp...
Can anyone confirm if L/R and M/S can be set to linked and un-linked?
Depending on that answer I would submit FR for unlink/link option (regardless of what the real hardware does)

Sorry ... I just thought of another product I would consider buying.
Would IK like to try its hand at a [real] upward compressor?
Definition: gain reduction below the threshold.
Maybe thats an emu, maybe not. What I mean is that although the hardware specs and/or manuals don't make a claim to do upward compression (everyone will laugh at me for this) I am betting the end sonic result of certain hardware is actually 'low level' compression where the high 'levels' are not necessarily compressed [without parallel or NY style or Motown or whatever].

Plenty of software plugins do this:
Blue Cat dynamics
Ozone5 [multiband]
Waves C1, C4, C6, LinMB etc.
Neodyminum (now defunct sadly)
FlX Toneboosters
Anyway - would like to hear IK take on this 'low level' only compression style.

Optimal number of audio plugins is one more than you currently have.
