I'm currently running all of my instances of Zebra 2 and Zebra HS in Vienna Ensemble Pro, using Pro Tools 10 as a sequencer. The issue I'm having is that when I midi learn a function, Zebra seems to "forget" what it learned after the session is closed. So, for example, if I automate a filter on CC#11, then save and close the session, upon reopening I will see the automation in the sequencer, but Zebra will not respond to it. I have also tried using Vienna's automation manager with the same results. Is this a PT issue or a Zebra issue?

(I don't know anything about Vienna or PT but the plug-ins hosting plug-ins thing seemed interesting ... I guess problems like this are a consequence, shouldn't *have* to be that way though ...)

Perhaps try learning the MIDI mappings while using only a single instance of Zebra / ZebraHZ?

Afaik, whenever an instance is unloaded (i.e. when closing the session), it writes the mappings to a text file. E.g. on my Mac, Zebra2 MIDI mappings are stored in:

~/Library/Application\ Support/u-he/com.u-he.Zebra2.midiassign.txt

I guess that in your case, you have learned some mappings in one particular instance of the plug-in; but other instances are not yet aware of these mappings, so when they get unloaded *after* that first instance, they overwrite the mappings file with their non-existing mappings, thus clearing them. Hth.

Just a hunch - do you close Zebra's GUI before closing the VE session?

u-he plugins write stuff -like MIDI learned parameters- to disk when the GUI closes. If this happens before the plugin instance is un-loaded -- everything's fine. If however the GUI is destroyed by the host simply unloading the plugin, then that sometimes leads to "forgotten" things like MIDI learned parameters.

Might be worth trying out?

EDIT: ...that said, could also be a file access permission problem. Maybe something gets rejected or denied while being passed to the system through two host applications... are you by any chance on a Windows machine?

I should have specified my full system:

Mac Pro 8-core 2.4GHz, 28GB RAM
OSX 10.7.4
PT10
Vienna Ensemble Pro 5.12337 (64-bit)

There's a VEP slave as well, but I'm only referring to instances of Zebra HZ and Zebra 2 hosted on my sequencer computer.

I wonder if hosting Zebra in VEP changes how it writes to the text file.
