The discussion here about Tone2 using this freebie as a Trojan horse to install intrusive software without users granting their full informed consent is very much on topic, imo.chk071 wrote:Wow, when did this thread turn so off-topic? I hope mods clear this soon, as this thread is clearly supposed to be about the Firbird freebie from Tone2, and not about copy protection bullshit.

Yeah, i'm guilty for derailing the thread too.
At the end of the day Thank You for tone2 for making this synth a freeware. I understand the necessity for protecting your IP, and i don't think this is as crazy as C/R or dongle in term of treating paying customer like a criminal, always handcuffed by the copy protection.

Lower than most, I suspect, but how about you show me where I've fought for the right to use illegal software.
When you can't, idiot, you know what to do.

Probably a clever move, I'll do the same. This thread has moved on, starting from "Firebird going free", stopping at "Tone2's copy protection is intrusive", and going on to "You are a pirate! vs. You are an idiot!" and at the moment culminating in "You probably have something to hide because you don't have a web page linked to your KVR account" which is obviously meant as irony, but very prone to be taken seriously by somebody very soon.Ingonator wrote: As i am repeating myself i think it's best for me to stop now.
Ingo
I fear that I have contributed to this nonsense and apologize to anyone who's interested, which is probably no-one.

Hakey, if you mean this: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 39#5455239 that is no trojan horse... i'm still surprised they feel the need to implement that in a freebie. Sucks, agreed.

To be fair, being 100% legit, I clearly won that one.streifentier wrote: going on to "You are a pirate! vs. You are an idiot!"
More an example of how silly the argument can get if you dumb down far enough.streifentier wrote: and at the moment culminating in "You probably have something to hide because you don't have a web page linked to your KVR account" which is obviously meant as irony, but very prone to be taken seriously by somebody very soon.
But like the pro tone 2 scan boys (see what I did there?) say, if you've nothing to fear etc...
My fan base.streifentier wrote:which is probably no-one.

Team AiR did, but who would believe them over a reputable company like tone 2?Ingonator wrote: The biggest problem is that never a real proof (one that everyone could confirm as screenshots etc. of a single person could be faked) was posted for such claims in the past.

Well, nevermind my first post, this kind of has a bitter blow about this freebie... i have no idea why Tone2 feel the need to implement something like that in a FREEWARE. I mean they should embrace that people use their freeware, instead of spying on the people who do. F*** that.
