Applications create and destroy files all the time, (logs, temp files, you name it), so the likelihood of FireBird doing something horrible by accident is not greater than it is with any other application that R/W accesses the filesystem. (Read 0.00%)

There is valid concern and there is hysteria. Dont fall victim to hysteria.

Reverse engineering and hacking are clearly defined activities. i.e. not open to personal interpretation. And viewing an applications activities on the system, be that in- or outside a sandbox, is neither reverse engineering nor hacking so case closed.

(BTW, where do they say that? Its almost a little hard to belive that a software programmer could actually state such blatant nonsense...)

Thanks again to Tone2 for generously giving this as freeware.

Looking forward to a 'great sale' in the near future so I can buy a couple of my favorites you design.

Love your stuff!

I have a bug to report. Firebird keeps welcoming me instead of staying on the set preset. It is useless to me if it keeps welcoming me.

Anyone else have this prob?

Post

It keeps switching to the welcome preset. Ugh.

Please define "keys". Key files? Registry entries? How do you find them without scanning other files?
Tone2 key files all have a .T2K extension. So presumably it's scanning for files with that extension and deleting the blacklisted ones.

I own Rayblaster, Gladiator, and Warmverb. Tone2 makes unique, worthwhile plugins. I have had no problems with their installers.

I am against piracy but I wish Tone2 would take a softer approach with this kind of stuff. I think it is extremely unlikely that the installer will do any harm but discussions like this are bad publicity which can engender weird feelings and misunderstandings.

Regarding EULAs, just because a company puts something in their EULA doesn't mean it's legal and will hold up in a court of law. Someone can create a plugin that has a EULA that says, "The user will hand over all of their money to the company." They would laughed out of court if they tried to enforce the EULA. I'm not commenting on Tone2's EULA, just EULAs in general.

I'm serious! No one else has this problem?

I would think you could get a more rational and timely response contacting Tone2 support/FAQ.

Some more details would be helpful. Do you mean Firebird does not keep your preset when you load a project from your host/DAW?

If yes it would be nice to know which host/DAW you use.

On my system with Ableton Live 9 (32-bit) saving the current preset with a project works fine after loading the project again.

It takes a while and then randomly switches back to "welcome" while playing back the song. Super weird.

I agree with Frantz. I own Saurus and FireBird, and haven't had a problem with Tone2's installers.

I also haven't had a problem with FireBird "welcoming me" instead of loading the preset I saved with the file (if that's what you're talking about, arkmabat). As BBFG# suggested, you probably would get a faster response if you contacted Tone2 directly. They've been very responsive when I've contacted them.

Here's some of my stuff: https://soundcloud.com/shadowsoflife. If you hear something you like, I'm looking for collaborators.

Have you checked the event list in the MIDI file to see if there's a program change event in there?

Does this happen with any song you've created? You might want to try another project/file, if it's only happening in one.

As Ingonator asked, which DAW are you using?

Hey, maybe you're sending a midi cc that resets to first preset? Why don't you start a brand new project and see if this happens again? Or try a different host? There are some free ones, you know.
