(btw, I used to love this NDS Tracker: http://nitrotracker.tobw.net/ ) Even with three VSTs all playing the same midi file, only firebird had host-accessible patches. What luck? :? :) It's all good now. Thanks!
Nice to hear it's solved. :)

Hard to follow or help with such questions with the endless talk about copy protection here.

interesting, looks like its snooping into potential locations and not just the installed folder.

The most important question is if this does any harm to your computer or files not related to Tone2 products. The answer is: NO.

"Most important" is in the eye of the beholder. I actually think that the question "why aren't other developers spying on our computers?" is a bit more important.

Ingonator wrote:BTW since i had used the Sonar demo one of the default paths for vstplugins seems to be D:\ProgramFiles\Cakewalk now (in some installers even the default path) which i have to rid of somehow.
See if you have a key named:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VST\VSTPluginsPath

I think most installers read the value from there, and I think that's the only purpose of it. I always manually set mine to 'C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins', which is where my plugins live.

:o What!? Now you're getting in on the act!

You are reverse engineering their programs and publishing your findings in clear violation of the EULA.

The Tone2 police are on the way to your house now. Yes, Tone2 has its own private police force and prison. It was nice knowing you Ingo.

V'ger wrote: Where does Tone2 say it just checks a single directory? Since they obviously didn't it baffles why you would say it?
It checks the installation directory (e.g. your vstplugins folder) for blacklisted key files.
You said it was stated by Tone2. It was obviously not true so why say it?

And now you say it doesn't scan C:\ after it's just been shown that it does indeed scan there?

I know brand loyalty is a force, but taking leave of reason like this is frankly embarrassing..

Now there's reports of Tone2 tampering with files from other manufacturers as well.

Why can't truth prevail? Why do people feel that protecting their favorite music plugin software manufacturer is more important than truth and open discussion? I just don't get it.

Besides that i'm a beta tester and sound designer for Tone2, i guess that counts too...
Tell it to Judge Markus. He is not known for leniency in these matters.

Perhaps he will give you a reduced sentence. 99 years of hard labor at Tone2 Prison seems a bit much given your previous good deeds.

Good luck. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
