I haven't used Bazille yet, but what are the most important differences between Bazille and ACE?Ch00rD wrote:Iirc he said (in an interview, somewhere) that most of his sounds that people think were made with Massive, were actually made with FM8 or (Live's) Operator.![]()
Guess he hasn't discovered Bazille yet.
Improvements!

Looks like 56k modem sounds are not allowed from gema in germany.Urs wrote:Hmmm, when I listen to that stuff I don't hear many synths. A different paradigm, but some of the modern EDM tropes - all that orrible crunchy Skrillex stuff, for example - would be difficult or impossible with a Sylenth-like synth.

ACE is a modular virtual analogue synthesizer, Bazille is a modular FM and PD synth. Different synthesis concepts, similar concept of workflow and interface.abique wrote:I haven't used Bazille yet, but what are the most important differences between Bazille and ACE?Ch00rD wrote:Iirc he said (in an interview, somewhere) that most of his sounds that people think were made with Massive, were actually made with FM8 or (Live's) Operator.![]()

Although they are both members of the "Berlin Modular" family...
1) Bazille's oscillators are based on PD, FM and Fractal resonance, not analogue and 2) Bazille has twice as many oscillators / filters / envelopes / multiples / Mapping Generators, plus more flexible effects (not to mention several modulation processors - quantizer, lag generators etc.).
[Edit: Urs beat me to it, but I said more

Hehehe, Gema has nothing against Youtube streaming it. Youtube is just afraid that they might have to spend more than 0.1 cent or so per view. Which would mean that presumably the biggest data mining and social research facility in the world would possibly cost its owners a tiny percentage of the revenue generated with that knowledge.tomtoo wrote:Looks like 56k modem sounds are not allowed from gema in germany.
Isn't it too funny how the biggest corporation that profits from copyright infringement is on the... ah, I digress, nevermind.

Know what you mean but, like it or loathe it, that sound is very much under the EDM umbrella.Urs wrote: Hmmm, when I listen to that stuff I don't hear many synths. It's more like people trying to use drum samples to immitate the sound of a vintage 56k modem negotiating a connection

Maybe we'll invest a Saturday and put that sound into our weekend project EDM synth as well. That should make it The Definite Choice™ then.hakey wrote:Know what you mean but, like it or loathe it, that sound is very much under the EDM umbrella.Urs wrote: Hmmm, when I listen to that stuff I don't hear many synths. Could a filter bypass option be added? It seems simpler than faking it.Urs wrote: An easy way to open a filter fully from the user's side is to apply a little resonance, just below the point of a frequency boost. That should work for any filter that goes up to about 20kHz. Or, a developer could "fake" fully open by adding a little resonance automatically.

IIRC only Diva and FilterscapeVA have hardwired filters. Well, that hypothetical supersaw & modem synth would certainly have a bypass option.

I don't know. It was a general question after reading this thread and not something that I actually want or need. I like my sounds filtered and dark-ish.Urs wrote: In which synth?
I also realize the open filter might still add some "magic" to the sound that would be missing when bypassed.

And there is the name? "SnM Synth" aka "Supersaw & Modem Synth"!Urs wrote:Well, that hypothetical supersaw & modem synth would certainly have a bypass option.
