I think I was talking in a general sense about the dubstep/complextro/fadish-subgenre-of-the-month end of EDM, which I guess would be a whole bunch of sounds.

I'm just talking about the modem sound. It's like the antidote to supersaw. It is what a distorted bass is to a sine bass, and what growling is to Kate Bush.

Yeah, that. I think it's rather easy to do in DSP... we don't need to fully emulate a modem. A printer driver will do.
