Thanks. While I wait to hear from Muse, I'm installing K5 into a Vista VM. I'm going to try to copy over the install to the Receptor so it can find all the pieces it's looking for. The K5 install on the Receptor was broken, but I never cared since I have K8. I guess I should've cleaned it up before I did the upgrade.

OK, I think I've got it. I didn't realize the menus at the top of the rack mode screen were live while the setup dialogs were running. I was able to switch back to mixer mode and run the plugin utility. It showed that several of the old K5 plugs failed, so I removed the files out from under it (I tried clicking "skip" but it would just repeat the dialog). I had to remove Guitar Rig 3 and B4 II. Now things seem to be working and I am installing the 2.01 plugin package.

All of your installed plugins will remain installed and authorized.Robipiano wrote:One question.
After the upgrade I will find all my virtual instruments as before or I need to reinstall everything?
Thanks.
Only thing to know is that if you have the Muse Player plugin installed (which shipped in Receptor that had V2.0 installed from the factory) then do NOT install the new presets and plugins that come with the update, or you will lose any presets that you have created using MusePlayer. This only applies to a small number of customers, however.
All the best

Best thing to do is to download the manual for the software upgrade.ndurant wrote:Are there any release notes anywhere with more detailed info on the upgrade? In particular, bugs fixed from 1.9, and any known issues and gotchas.
You can download it here:
http://www.museresearch.com/downloads/d ... Manual.pdf
You can also get an idea of what the new interface does by looking at the QU4TTRO / TRIO demo we did. It's a video and is available on You Tube here:
Important differences are that the RECEPTOR 2 software upgrade does NOT support the PreSonus interface, but it DOES support all your built in audio I/O, so instead of seeing the I.O of the PreSonus, you'll see your built in audio I/O in the OUTPUT windows.
Also... the RECEPTOR 2 is a 32-bit system, so it does not have the 64-bit plugin support or bridging technology found in the new models. However, it DOES have the LIVE MODE function, which is the successor technology to snaphots, and it also has the SoundFinder interface for patch organization.
Please also note that this upgrade does not REPLACE your existing Mixer interface, nor will it blow away your existing patches and presets. Those are still there, and you can easily switch back and forth between the two modes!!
And finally, you can learn about the installation process by viewing the video here:
All the best

Now THAT'S interesting... usually VNC viewers don't tunnel through. What "Mac's built-in VNC" are you specifically referring to?drbill wrote:Tip: If you use your Mac's built-in VNC to get the Receptor's GUI you can type in the auth. code.

Sounds like you are trying to load a preset that doesn't have the requisite plugins or samples installed. You do get tech support with the upgrade, so please call in or file a help desk ticket so we can get to the bottom of this!drbill wrote:Turns out it's looking for the K5 stuff that's not really there. Now in an infinite startup loop. Great. Opening ticket now....

Quick question about the new backup/restore functionality.
Can I use backup/restore to keep two different Receptors in sync, or does the incremental synching procedure assume it's the same machine? I have several Receptors in different locations, and it would be really handy to be able to take a USB drive between locations to keep each Receptor up to date and in sync.

That is a fantastic question.ndurant wrote:Quick question about the new backup/restore functionality.

The answer is yes, but with effort.
Here are the two backup modes in the new software:
1. Backup the entire drive (called a "full" backup). This is required at first, and essentially clones your drive. Good news... this is a bootable drive now, so you really have a spare drive with you after you do a full backup.
2. Backup the "musician" directory (called a "normal" backup). This basically peforms an incremental backup of everything that is changed in the user space, which would backup any patches, banks, samples, edits, etc. that you did in normal operation. Obviously, the "normal" backup is much quicker than the "full' backup.
The problem comes in taking that backup drive and connecting it to another Receptor. Since the original drive is a clone of the first unit, when you go to restore the drive, its basically going to make unit "B" exactly the same as unit "A". Unfortunately, this means all your software authorizations and registrations will also be restored on to the second Receptor, which means that you _may_ have to re-register all the software to get it to run on that second unit. Alas, copy protection rears is unfortunate head.
So I think the correct thing to say here is that if you do a ton of work installing software, creating patches, and basically getting one unit tour-ready, then backing it up and then restoring to a second unit is a good thing to do, since all your install work is done once and only once. But then you'll have to go to the second unit and re-authorize any software on the unit (ilok products will not be effected, but things like KOMPLETE might...) and at that point, unit A should be exactly the same as unit B. As far as doing that on a regular basis to keep them in sync, it probably makes more sense just to copy banks an patches between the two units, which is PARTICULARLY EASY now in the RACK mode interface.
Why, do you ask, is that?? Because every patch you create in the new Rack mode interface has a copy of that patch placed into the USER Tag. When it comes to moving patches from unit to unit, all you need to do is copy the USER bank along with all the patches therein, put that collection of presets into Drop Installers Here, and then install those patches. The unit will automatically create any new Tags, put the presets into whatever Tags they were assigned to in the first unit, as well as keeping copies in the User Tag on the new unit as well. Every preset you make in Rack mode has all of its Tag information saves with the presets that go into the User Tag, so copying the User Tag presets from one machine to another copies ALL your Tag and preset information in your entire unit.
Don't know about you, but I think that's fairly nifty...

Thanks for the comprehensive and speedy reply Bryan! A few follow-up questions:
1. Regarding using backup/restore to keep multiple Receptors in sync. If I've gone through the work of getting several machines replicated, and re-authorised any plugins requiring it, could I then use the straightforward "Normal" backup/restore operation to keep the units in sync? Or is that likely to reset authorisations each time?
2. Regarding the nifty technique you described of transferring the whole USER tagged patches, will this maintain ordering in the target machine, so that the same MIDI bank/program changes can be used? This is incredibly important for me!
3. On the Muse Research Facebook page, it was stated that "The pricing for backup units is half the regular price ($99)" - how do we go about buying for backup machines? I can only see the $199 item.
Really keen to play with all these new features, but I'm still awaiting my download link...

Whether or not you'll have to re-authorize each time you resync depends on the plugin copy protection, so I can't really answer that. However, if your "resync" responsibilities are limited to new patches and Tags, then you can simply copy the User tag between the two by logging on the hard drive.. Job done.
When you copy over the User Tag contents, it copies all the Presets, along with all the information about their respective Tagging. As far as the preset ordering is concerned, I'd need to actually check this... I believe it will default to restoring them in alphabetical order. But before you emit a string of expletives towards us, keep in mind that PRESETS ARE NOW DRAG AND DROP REORDERABLE in any Tag, PLUS if you wanted them to be in a specific order when copied form machine to machine, but force the order by adding your own prefix, either letters or numbers. So... hopefully one of those two solutions is workable for you...
As for backup orders, you bring up a good point. There is no link to purchasing backup licenses, so we'd have to do it manually. Honestly, probably the best thing to do is send a mail to Sales@museresearch.com, stating how many licenses you need, and we'll place the order manually for you with all the correct pricing.

Thanks Bryan, all valuable info! The manual prefix approach might be the way to go by the sound of it, for patch transfer. Thanks!

I've been really struggling to download the plugin bundle. I have a great Internet connection and almost never have problems. The download starts fine at around 1Mb/sec, but has been grinding to a halt after about 2Gb. After my 5th attempt I'm still trying. I left it downloading over night, and this morning it still had 1Gb to go, with a download speed of 0B/sec.
Are there are mirrors? Or links on well-connected cloud services?

I'm very sorry that you are having problems downloading. Admittedly, you;'re overseas, and the server is in the US and currently there are no mirrors to download locally...
I apologize for the problems, please try again and I'll contact the ISP and see if they can do anything on this end.

Thanks very much Bryan!! However, I've just *finally* managed to download the whole lot, so I'm in the middle of upgrading now. Yes, it could be partly that I'm in the UK, although I often manage large downloads from US servers without any issue. Anyway, everything's fine for me now
Many thanks!
