While some styles prefer a limited selection of keys... To be quite frank the instrument used has a direct impact on the expressive nature of the key.
Articulation is means of which emotive values are expressed. It's not what you say as much as how you say it.
Articulation is intimate it involves the degree of control you have expressing yourself through your instrument with timing/meter and technique. In the field of emotive development classicalists with traditional classical instruments are best equipped for this controlled emotive release. As a musician/performer you are an actor/dancer of your instrument. You use the same types of devices for conveying emotive qualities that an actor uses. Classical instrumentalists hone techniques geared to the expressive qualities. How far ahead or behind the beat. Does the swell rise slowly or quickly, the sustain, decay, vibrato. The energy behind the instrument.
While developing technique for greater emotive values is not limited to traditional classical instruments or training. It does require a great deal of dedication to your craft to get there without that type of background. Focused listening and emulating the CHARACTER of the content even you can't reproduce the actual material is an important first step.

Well thanks for that but they hold no value to me. What value do they hold for you? Do you see the colors as you play. Do the colors hold the same value to you emotionally at different tempos or time signatures?

I do not know about those colors but musical tones do indeed appear in my mind in both colors and textures...but I cant say each note has a specific color always associated with that note...it can be anything from an ornament to an entire piece that has a color or texture in my mind's eye. Is that wrong? Does that make me?tapper mike wrote:Well thanks for that but they hold no value to me. What value do they hold for you? Do you see the colors as you play. The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

It's called synesthesia. Specifically the sound/color variant.

looking for this direct, 1:1 correspondence, this emotion/color, that note or chord isn't going to get you too far along the path of getting your chops together, though. it's a red herring really. reductio ad absurdum kind of came naturally, didn't it.

For example, if you want to make happy song with confidence, choose key D or C#. If you listen to songs which are in the key of D or C# with Cedarwood, Tangerine, Pettigrain (oops, don't they know "Petitgrain"?) or Geranium in your oil burner, happy confidence will be intensified.
BTW, be careful with "monophonic melody chords" as they can destroy all the happiness...

Why not just go back to using the church modes as representations of the humours?
