No patch memory in pulse 2. GAS went below zero.
Murderous duck!

Um.. you sure about that?

What do you think the "P" is for?

Hi everyone,
just got an update concerning the Pulse 2.
Looks like a few (2-3) units were shipped for a "pre-Beta".
Currently more units are assembled (looks they just received the parts)
and when those units are finished the "real" Beta testing and factory sound design will start.
Things are moving slowly but at least something seems to happen.

This is the only one with 3 Osc though and other features that the Minibrute and Mopho doesn't have. I'm guessing the Pulse 2 is going to carry more weight in a track more akin to a Minimoog, being rawer than the Minibrute or Mopho. Plus the multimode filter is going to give it a larger range of sounds. All speculation, but I like the Pulse 2 synthesis specs more than a lot of other smaller analogs out there. And yeah, you have 500 patch memory locations! That's fantastic.zerocrossing wrote:Interesting. Sounds pretty raw in a good way... not sure if it's something that needs to be in my studio though. I think Waldorf's biggest issue is that a lot of other companies have all hit the market with inexpensive and good analogs like the Minibrute and MoPho that a lot of guys like me already have a pretty packed collection of such things.
I'm guessing things are going along slowly but surely at Waldorf, but I'm sure anxious to hear more of this. Feels like we are under a month away from it's release. But that's just a hunch.
I wonder if they put a randomize function on it like the original had. That was great weird fun when I had it.

In musicstore.de's catalog it says 4/8 paraphonic .. is this true?

Yes, there are specific paraphonic osc modes with 4 or 8 voice polyphony.Crackbaby wrote:In musicstore.de's catalog it says 4/8 paraphonic .. is this true?
It's possible to do PWM with those.
At the Musikmesse an Alpha version with those two modes was presented.

How did it sound? What difference did it being paraphonic make on the sound as opposed to polyphonic?
This video is of the paraphonic Volca Keys and I think it sounds amazing:

Paraphonic just means that all 4/8 voices go through one filter and one set of envelopes, you don't get them per-voice. Think string machine envelope behaviour, Korg Poly800, etc.

That demo does sound amazing. I will get this volca in a couple months.

I had just been using one of my many soft synths in a track last night when I decided to audition some patches on my "Classic" Pulse for the part. Whenever I do this, I am always struck by just how rad the Pulse sounds in comparison. It's an absolute monster and sounds so crazy aggressive and unpredictable (in the best possible way).
What's my point? That even though it's taking Waldorf forever to release the Pulse 2, it's totally going to be worth the wait. Having a Pulse with more filter options, more mod routings, WAY more patch storage, a display, AND paraphony (!!!) is going to be the freaking bomb.

What's the theory behind using PWM to make it paraphonic? Or did you mean that you can use PWM on those 4/8? If so it must have 8 osc's? But it says 3?

The paraphonic 8 mode i tested at the Musikmesse used a variable Pulse waveform and you could do PWM using the mod matrix.Crackbaby wrote:What's the theory behind using PWM to make it paraphonic? Or did you mean that you can use PWM on those 4/8? If so it must have 8 osc's? But it says 3?

Paraphonic oscillators usually seem to work with a "divide down" architecture (or "Top Octave Divider, TOP) but not 100% sur in this case.
