I can haz triplets.Urs wrote: Yes, triplets are possible too. Any kind of swing factor is.
I think 5.33 would be a quarter triplet, 2.67 an eigth triplet (I have a long history of confusing those though).
I think calibrating this in decimals instead of standard music units is kind of confusing though.

okUrs wrote:We (well, I) have decided that in host sync mode the tape speed would not change the delay times. I ask myself as I go to check..

that makes more sense.
not sure if that is mentioned in the manual.

I'm going to have a go at using many Satinses in series to simulate a multiple tape bounce. I'll post my results if they're interesting. I've been thinking about buying a tape machine for the longest time but I'm hoping I won't need to nowDavid Else wrote:Is it possible to turn off saturation/EQ curves and use JUST the tape compression?
I have not had the chance to demo Satin yet, but i would love to think a lo-fi tape option would be available. I would use that as much as a great sounding mastering tape... big Boards Of Canada fan

Bought Satin Friday night and have had a little time to play. Wow!!
I've mostly tried things that are intentionally somewhat subtle, but even my relatively untrained ears can detect a wonderful difference. And the delays sound so...good. I would describe it a "smooth". Satin is really a great choice for the name of this masterpiece.

But I did find out that v1818 still syncs!Urs wrote:We (well, I) have decided that in host sync mode the tape speed would not change the delay times. That means, it's normal that it syncs speed wise. Setup at 15ips (or whatever you feel like), setup your head positions - and no matter at which host speed, the delay is always the same.
SPEAKING OF WHICH!
You can find them at the following link. The old presets are gone. Urs, feel free to implement, fine tune or whatever. It's not a "nulled" preset, but it's a great starting point none the less.
Additional info is in the Read me file.
RL Space Echo (ish) Presets v1
Suitable for SATIN v1818 (RC) and up.
Please enjoy.
Oh and, another FR (I know you people make notes):
A bit more control over the tape distortion would be nice. Maybe an additional drive button.

I think you need to halve those values. A quarter note triplet is 1/6th of a 4/4 bar or 3 to a half-note. It would be 2.67 in the units on Satin - ie shorter than a quarter note.Urs wrote:I think 5.33 would be a quarter triplet, 2.67 an eigth triplet (I have a long history of confusing those though).

Could be a good solutionUrs wrote:Hmmm, maybe we can print them onto the sliders... might be a job for the skin designers...K-Slash wrote:Sure, I use my ears, but having values like "1/8, 1/8d, 1/8t" would be way better !

Great product, again
Stable in cubase 7, only used studio mode.
Couple of random crashes (rev 1827) but i think that's cubase 7, still not stable for me.
Never tried Slate & UAD but can't imagine a plugin that ads more mojo and depth then Satin.
Tried satin on all and (with a little tweaking) it makes everything just sit better, magic
Cheers,
Justus

Anyone else having this problem in Logic Pro 9.1.8?
1. In Logic session, instantiate Satin on a channel
2. Select a Studio preset
3. Set grouping function in Satin.
4. Open another instance of satin, add to same group.
5. Close session without saving.
6. Open a different saved Logic session.
7. Instantiate Satin on a channel
8. Set group function again.....
9. Crash.
It happens every single time. Should I just submit a crash log to u-he?

I have to admit that I'm a little disappointed with Satin. Don't get me wrong, its amazing at what it does, and I'm definitely going to buy it. But as someone else mentioned, I had really been hoping there would be a seriously lo-fi mode. I'm talking Boards of Canada, slow tape speed, lots of warbling, crinkled tape, hiss... similar to what I can do with my Strymon El Capistan pedal but in a convenient plugin format.
I'm still experimenting to see how far I can push Satin in that direction, but I have a feeling it will always sound too nice.

Actually, I kind of say the same. Other tape machines just have a bit more bite in the "lofi" type (sound) section. Or are more prominent if we talk about certain emulated machines (saturation in general).
But... SATIN offers other tools - like the Dolby NR modes, the capability to mess with the tape and an excellent (however still confusing) 2 and 4 tap tape delay.
Tons of FR's were filed already. Release is on Monday and I'm sure there will be a lot(!) happening by late Autumn.
I hope they're usable to you.
If I'm in the mood, maybe I'll tackle the "Watkat" settings as well. Not necassarily the tape sound. But what always bugged me with the Watkat emulation - the fixed tape speed (and the now small GUI).
Would still get both the GSi VST's however. Great tools for your money.
And... I already heard people being on the trail of creating presets from VTM and KMT. So... we're pretty much covered in ton of possibillities soon. I just hope someone is kind enough and ports some Uher, TASCAM, Telefunken, Rexos and Grundig stuff.
I'd also love to see a Forstex preset. But I can't measure that one - don't have the Forstex 280 4-track anymore.
