This is nice...never had a chance to play a real Leslie or similar, but this does sound very good to my ears.

Do you have an expected price/introductory period ?

Post

Thank you!
There will be introductory period, but right now we are still in beta phase, though it probably will be released as soon as it will look like nobody has a problem ;).

Looks good, I'll try it tomorrow. Thanks Vojtech.

So, put this to the test..

32-bit took a lot of abuse without much clicking or complaining in FL Studio 11.0.3. One modulator with fairly fast noise/mess set to switch between fast and slow and another also with fairly fast noise/mess set to switch between the three amp types with distortion and character cranked up a bit and I only registred one little click that could as well have been the soundcard complaining about too much other software running at the same time. Threw in some automation of fast/slow switch and the fast + slow rates. Still nothing blew up in my face. :P

In FL Studio I can only resize the GUI to the right side, not downwards. Is this intended?

Seems to work fine in the Reaper 64-bit demo too (v4.402), did some crazy automation of fast rate and no complaints or what I would consider unwanted artifacts from MVintageRotary. Here also I can only change how wide or narrow the GUI is, not it's vertical size.

I wish for an alternative bigger GUI where I can have the so called "advanced" features fully visible within the regular GUI at all times as those are the ones I want to muck about with. As there are "only" 2 of your lovely modulators I'll probably be automating those "hidden" parameters most of the time anyway, so I can live without it though I'd appreciate such an option.

It seems a bit more CPU intensive than I would have expected, but it sounds really nice on the semi-pad-ish sound I threw together quickly in Z3TA+ 2 to test it with so I guess it's worth it. Modulating the rates sounds sweet to my ears. Disclaimer: I haven't ever been even close to a real rotary speaker that I know of so I can't say anything about how "authentic" it sounds, just that I found what it does to the right sounds really pleasing. 8)

I'll see if I can't put it through some heavier abuse too check of anything seems to fall apart then, or if it'll still behave no matter what I throw at it. I'll also see if I can virtually "dig out" some hosts I seldom use to test it with those as well, the demo of Renoise and my NFR copy of Orion that haven't seen much use since I invested in FL Studio.. Anything specific you'd like me to try out, any specific kind of automation or modulation or something?

Anyone else got around to trying this thing out? :harp:

Cool, thank you!
And don't worry, there will be a "normal" rotary later, with lots of parameters to modulate :D. I suppose most users of this vintage one won't be seeking so much craziness ;).

So, did some more testing..

Pushed the random button repeatedly in search for the most abusive settings in Orion 8.504 32-bit and Renoise 2.8.0, everything ran fairly smooth.

Orion 8.504 64-bit stopped playback after a while when I tweaked a random modulator to run at 500% (@ 120 bpm) and switch between the different models, CPU use just got too high with such extreme settings. Interesting rhythmical effect as long as it lasted with surprisingly little artifacts from switching so rapidly between the different models though.

FM8 through MVintageRotary with quite a bit of distortion and the higher quality setting could be made to sound somewhat guitar like. Not so much with "normal" quality.

It can sound quite nice with subtle modulation of rates, to my ears it takes on a chorus like quality of its own then.

When does the "proper" MRotary arrive? :D

Very well, the final version should be out tomorrow ;).

I noticed it is version 7.11. Will the rest of the effects get an update to 7.11 at the same time? Or will that be later?

Post

Yes ;). Hopefully today, on moday max.

Sounds really good. Played with it at 2am last night and it's in the next song (on a lounge lizard electric piano patch).

Thought it strange that the speed settings are on the advanced tab and not on the main UI. I use these all the time and wish there was a way to just have this in the main UI without having to open a tab.

Other than that no complaints.

Vojtech did you have a play with Mr Donald by any chance? Some food for thought:

Your plugin sounds way better but Mr Donaldson provides independent speed for the bass and treble speakers, a nice feature. And I always loved the animated GUI :)
