LOGIC 9 is slightly more generous because it alerts me after inserting 9 SATIN instances and stop playback. And then, even effects _

So in the end, I bought Satin and I am now a u-he customer (about time).pheeleep wrote:I played with the Satin Demo a little last night and it is indeed a very nice plugin. I especially like the Delay and Flanger: Top Notch, but I cannot justify purchasing it at the moment as I already own too many high quality delays and flangers with which I can get similar results (with more work involved). The delay and Flanger in Satin are very easy to use and sound very very good; Instant gratification without having to tweak a thousand parameters. The included presets are also very good.
Regarding the Tape saturation aspect, as with all Tape emulators, to get good results (well at least to my ears) you need to do very subtle tweaks or the sound starts getting very harsh/distorted. I feel I already have what I need to get a good subtle saturation effect, granted I would love to have the extra options that Satin offers including the "service" section which is really cool.
Great job U-he. If I didn't already own a gazillion plugins (or if I had more money than I have), I would jump on this, especially at the intro price. I am still on the fence, leaning towards not getting it, but you never know.. I may play with it more this weekend and realize that I do need it's flexibility and multitude of options...
Ah decisions, decisions..
PS: Windows 32 bit VST3 version is not loading/working in FL Studio. I get an error message when I try to load it but can't remember specifically which one (not at the PC at the moment). Windows 32 bit VST2 version loads fine and that's what I used to demo the plugin.
This plugin sounds great. I made the "mistake" of using the demo in 2 new songs and last night when I bypassed it on my master on one of them, I knew that there was no way I was going to miss out on "that sound". Off to enter the reg code now to get rid of those crackles. I listened to them for 3 hours straight last night.. Crrrrr crrrrrr.. lol good riddance!
Play it by ear

got it and loving it! it does a lot of things (flanger and chorus for example) that sounds like my ears expect good outboard to sound like. the intro price is very reasonable considering the competition, very much appreciated and congratulations on your best sounding plugin yet! it's definitely going on my next record.

Will I only experience this problem ?geronimo wrote:LOGIC 9 is slightly more generous because it alerts me after inserting 9 SATIN instances and stop playback. And then, even effects _![]()

I haven't actually tread to check Satin's CPU use because I've had no issues with it. I mixed four songs all with six-instances of satin and had no problems on my 2013 iMac.

i think the cpu use is very reasonable compared to some plugins that are so intensive that it's like a having a piece of outboard. i didnt get the best mileage in ableton but that kinda goes without saying. in max (my friend's sequencer patch to be exact) and reaper i can pile them on.momalle3 wrote:I haven't actually tread to check Satin's CPU use because I've had no issues with it. Well try with 8 or 8 instances SATIN: with only 6 or 7, it works fine but not beyond _momalle3 wrote:I mixed four songs all with six-instances of satin and had no problems on my 2013 iMac.

I had six--five tracks plus the master plus satin as a delay and a reverb. Had no problems even though I was also using Equilibrium at high CPU settings
I'm just reporting my experience, not disclaiming anyone else's

Maybe this might be of interest:
Every time I'm at a clients place on an iMac 11.3 and Logic 9, sometimes the host starts to barf without reason.
Apparently, there is a memory problem with Logic 9 that seems to cause this. At least I was told so. Maybe you encountered similar?

WOW ! this sounds amazing, bought it without demoing, because by now I know U-he products are great.
The creative aspects a re more what I am interested in, turning a simple synth sound into a dub techno odyssey with 2 instances of satin, very very easy. Going to be fun getting to know the guts of this plugin.
And BTW, the HISS, it's great

I have had no problems at all in Cubase 7 1.05 x64.
Congratulations to all the team on a really, really cool product. Satin has made me a convert. I'm doing game music atm, but I'll be using Satin a lot on my jazz and rock tracks.

Think I found a minor bug. If I move the manual flange slider away from its home position and then deactivate and reactivate the plugin, using the host power button, the flanger resets to its home position. If I use the bypass button within Satin this doesn't happen.

Sure you don't have some automation/MIDI going on?Nig wrote:Think I found a minor bug. Doesn't happen here in OSX/Reaper.
I slide the slider to somewhere, and no matter if the project is playing back or stopped, when I bypass (=deactivate, as in 'not being processed') and re-activate Satin, the slider stays right where it was...
Reaper user? Get my free JSFX plug-ins, also available via ReaPack extension.

I was testing this, and it's same behavior with Live 9/OS X here. However, something else - it seems that automating Satin in Live is bugged.chokehold wrote: Sure you don't have some automation/MIDI going on?
Live's behavior is: if a parameter is automated but changes as a result of something else, Live stops listening to automation. A simple example of an automation-breaking event is tweaking the parameter in the GUI.
When a parameter in Satin is automated, however, Live registers that some kind of automation-breaking event has occurred. Thus any parameter automation results in Live not listening to automation for that parameter.
Possibly - Satin is receiving automation, updating, and then reporting that back in a way Live reads as an automation-breaking event? Seems like something pretty subtle with less-subtle consequences.
(Actually, I think both Live and Satin are doing things a little non-standard, but interesting and useful, with parameter automation. Parameters in Live are always available to tweak non-destructively, and e.g. the multiple ways to flange in Satin are very cool. Just some kind of confusion in between, sure hope it's not nasty to resolve
Another quirk - returning Live to automation is done by transport button. It lights up when automation is broken, and clicking this returns all parameters to automation. Here, one click seems to cause an event from Satin that signals automation breaking, so it lights up again instantaneously. The second click works though.
[e] More:
The above was done with Satin AU. Satin VST seems to process automation correctly, but not record it from the GUI - it has to be hand-drawn.
