Satin question

Are the "Studio", delay and flanger designed to work separately only? Meaning if I want to use Studio and Delay on the same sound, I load 2 instances of Satin? You can't feed the affected Studio sound into the delay? If I switch to delay, the dry sound that I hear is not the sound heard in Studio view. I am not hearing the effect achieved thanks to the emphasis parameter in Studio.
Thanks!
Thanks!

it's "only" one tapemachine.

You can have the studio mode in delay mode if you 'sacrifice' one repro head, set to minimum distance and turn the mix all wet. Then, you still have up to 3 heads for delay (but head 1 still feeds the feedback bus, though).
In delay & flange mode, some of the studio parameter aren't available, these get automatically set to their default setting (e.g. compander section is disabled, pre-emphasis to 50%.

Nice tip - is it worth adding this to the manual?sascha wrote:You can have the studio mode in delay mode if you 'sacrifice' one repro head, set to minimum distance and turn the mix all wet. Then, you still have up to 3 heads for delay (but head 1 still feeds the feedback bus, though).

Thanks for the fast answer Rob. I wanted to skip the vat, as a student I'm broke and even if the price is a fair one it's expensive for me... And (for the 1000000th time) congrats for this amazing contribution to the digital audio processing world !

Is this a restriction of the model, or 'merely' a design choice? If at all possible, I think I would much prefer if those parameters would not get reset to their default values when changing mode, so we would have even more possibilities to sculpt the sound character when using Flange or Delay mode.sascha wrote:You can have the studio mode in delay mode if you 'sacrifice' one repro head, set to minimum distance and turn the mix all wet. So I can't use 2 in series, correct?
If the first instance is in studio mode with emphasis set to 80% and then I load a Satin delay (which has the emphasis set to 50% by default and it cannot be changed) then this will screw up the emphasis I had set in the 1st instance... Bummer.. Please correct me if there is a workaround..

I've tried doing this sort of chaining and like the sound at the end of it. It's weird but I just have to think of it more as an overdub where the tape effects are being applied from tape playback into a tape delay and it feels more authenticpheeleep wrote:So I can't use 2 in series, correct?

More so than a lot of effects, I think Satins make a fair amount of sense in series - I think u-he has considered a couple of tape stages as legitimate or even recommended in some contexts.
