You could be one of the lucky ones and C7 will work for you like a charm right out of the box.

I upgraded to C7 from C5.5 and found out it wasn't really an upgrade - more of a degrade.

All I can say is that I probably would have been better off buying Reaper for $69 and troubleshooting it into operancy - because all I have been doing is troubleshooting C7 since I bought it for $250 in July and it is still only barely operant. I would have wasted fewer cuss words and that extra $180 could have bought me a few cool-plug-ins to actually use.

Yes it does.
Thank you. :)
I better let you know this in case it's a really major need for you.. The way cubase works is brilliant.. you can be playing to your hearts content for fun and realise.. oooh, that was nice, and hit retrospective record. In logic playback has to be engaged.. you can't use it with stuff you've been just sitting down and playing for the hell of it.. it's really only useful if for some reason you forget to hit record or something.
Oh, that is a major thing. :( Looks like I'll be on 6.5 for a looooong time.

Thanks for the heads-up Theo, much appreciated. :tu:

I am not sure this is helping my decision :(
Problem with switching daws is not only you have to learn a new system, you can pretty much kiss your old projects goodbye. Say, if I buy a new computer in like, 4 years with windows-whatever-it-is-called-then, chances are Cubase 5.5 won't work properly and old projects won't load.
Is ther a demo of Cubase 7 available? Maybe it works for me... [EDIT: yes, found it]
Btw thomann still has the update for 229,-€, maybe others too...

This isn't going to help anyone or bring me friends, but when I saw this thread I went to my local dealers webpage and ordered the 6.5->7 update for 75€... Not going to register it before 7.5 is released though.
A guy with serious GAS and lots of unused VSTs. But if I someday need them...

No skin off my nose, but you do realize that there is a Steinberg rep in this forum, right? If enough of you mention this ploy, he may report it to his superiors and they might find a way to foil your plans. So do it, but just shhh.

A little paranoid, aren't we? :hihi: Besides, there's nothing illegal or shady about it so.

Indeed, it's Steinberg, not the NSA.

(And the NSA could probably do a better job on the Mixer. :hihi:)

Wild-eyed guess: There will be a 7.5 update that will cost nothing for 7 users (because 7 has been such a tumultuous release), and these new prices are basically an upgrade to both 7 and 7.5 rolled into one. Then, all future updates will be at this pricing too.

That would be optimum - as long as they fix the bugs.

I think that ultimately money is no object for any tool you find indispensable in your creative workflow.

Guess I'll be on Cubase Studio 5 forever. 399 euros to upgrade ain't gonna happen. And I've got to many old projects to switch at this point.

Actually... I am not here to ruin anybody's plans ;).
It really doesn't concern me how much you payed for your software.
Dealers / Distributors can decide their own strategy. They buy the software from us at certain price and whatever they decide to do with it, is their problem, if they have bigger or smaller margin or none....

They pretty much already are at $199. That's an insane price for all that Logic is. That only really works (for corporations) when there is no risk involved and the company doesn't depend on those sales to survive.
I think it works really well for Apple, besides. Most people seem to buy Logic in addition to another DAW. This means other DAWs keep developing for OSX (important for Apple), and ensures that buyers keep buying Apple (to use Logic). When Logic was back at $499 and higher, it was a competitor to other DAWs. Now it's in addition to another DAW.

it's not a problem and totally legal if you not register your 7.0 update because you actually wont use it (and can't ofco' if its not registered). the date you bought it isn't important.

i wouldn't do it because every penny more for them is a penny to much! the only language they understand. i stay with 6.5 (not that i really need it hardly as DAW - it's just i know how to use it after all the years) and i have FL Studio SB too, excellent tool with free lifetime update. more money left for great plugins & hardware.. :)

Just to be clear here, you mean such that it shows up on your MySteinberg account? Right now only my v5.5 and my cubase LE licenses show up. I can't remember with the dongle stuff, do you have to manually register your serial with Steniberg, and if so, is that what they consider to be the date that matters in terms of upgrades? Then, if so, is support (and reduced upgrade pricing) the only reason that people register?
