Yeah, that effect sounds bad to me, and that's why I was initially underwhelmed by it.fluffy_little_something wrote:You're welcome
By the way, there already is a Stereo Image effect in the Acoustic Piano patch, try turning the Wide knob to max. That makes the sound better as well...
A properly stereo sampled piano sounds better, and the keys sound in different parts of the stereo spectrum.
But you can make this by way of combis in Purity, and it's very easy because all you have to do is link 5-6 "Acoustic Piano" presets together, adjust their sample ranges and pan them appropriately.
I have to say that Purity's piano sounds really good when you do that.
It's funny because now I've done a complete 180 and consider Purity's piano to be deceptively good. I would use it over my Hyper Canvas.
No prob. Luxonix has been really great about following up on what they say. The customer support has been stellar, so I wouldn't worry too much - they're usually good about giving people what they want.Aloysius wrote:Awesome. Yeap, the programmer of Purity, tried contacting me again almost a full year later to resolve bugs I reported when it was first released, but I wasn't around.

Ah, you mean low keys on the left and high keys on the right? As if you were a pianist sitting behind the piano
If piano is the only instruments it sounds good.
But in songs I always find it odd to have an instrument in stereo spread across the panorama. Like with toms for instance. It sounds unnatural to me as the whole stage is my stereo panorama. So the whole piano is just one spot there, just like the drums are a different spot. Thus I guess it is more natural to have a mono piano sound. Especially low notes sound weird when they are on one side, just like it sounds odd with electric or synth bass.

I agree! This was my argument against stereo samples in general. I hate stereo samples but quite like stereo piano samples when I write piano songs.fluffy_little_something wrote:Ah, you mean low keys on the left and high keys on the right? I've been taking an EQ to Purity, the M1 and the Hyper Canvas, deciding to hear with my eyes and not my ears, and I'm finding that Purity does have bass and is a lot more full bodied than I thought.
Here's where I messed up:
Purity has middle C an octave higher than I'm used to it being.
So if I play a bassline in the M1 on C3, I get a deeper bass than Purity being played at C3. I need to move Purity down to C2.
Which might seem like an idiotic mistake to make, but it's not my fault, I swear!
It turns out my speakers are a lot worse at producing sound in the 40-160hz range than I thought. So when we're talking sub-basses and things, I'm flying blind. (Edit: By which I mean, I can't tell really the difference between 40hz and 80hz in my current listening environment - not enough for me to realize this without taking an EQ to it all. So when I would put a bassline down on, for example, D3 out of habit because that's where I'm used to playing it, Purity wouldn't sound right because it's an octave higher.)
Back in the day, I was probably making this same mistake, by putting my synth basses an octave higher than they should've been because they are harder to judge, and in my defense, I don't think even my Samsons produced the 40-160hz range very well.

Found another reason why I messed this up.
You know, for the past few days, I was thinking middle C was jumping around on me and changing positions.
It turns out, some sounds are tuned +/- 12 semitones.
"Dirty G" and "Pro-1" under synth basses for example.
This is why I was confused.
That's kind of annoying, but I understand why they do it.
When you tune something in Purity, it doesn't just transpose it up or down, it actually tunes those specific samples.
Okay. Now I feel less dumb.
Oh boy.
I'm getting too old for this.

I reported a serious Bug in the 64 Bit version of Purity but Sky Cha responded:
"I will send our old programmer your issues. But he may not be able to solve.
"
If anyone else is testing the 64 bit version PM me please.......

I received a reply from Luxonix.
Here are the new prices (ex. sales tax/VAT).
USD 49.00 | EUR 36.00 | GBP 31.00
Total amount for me is now: EUR 42.84 (57.89 US Dollar). An improvement of about EUR 5.
I'm getting it.
If you're on Facebook, don't forget to 'like' them. They only have 15 'friends' there at the moment.

Just got a mail stating the same prices. But frankly I don't really understand that mail, which reads like this:
"Dear our users,
First, thanks for purchasing Purity.
Purity is our steady seller. But now we put a price EUR 36.00 and GBP 31.00 on Purity.
So, we provide 50% discount coupon for purchased european users in this month only.
This is your coupon code :
"
When I already bought it, what is the coupon for?
Anyway, it is a nice plugin, whether the price is 36 or 48 euros...

They had a sale price. Today they adjusted the sale price to accommodate Europeans (and English people).
I would guess that Luxonix didn't want you to feel cheated after your recent purchase, so they sent you a Coupon Code for the difference (maybe more?) between the price you paid and the adjusted sale price.
You could use it to partly pay for 'Toys in Wonderland' perhaps.
Or, you could write back and ask them wtf.

Yes, but they seem to have only two commercial products, one of which is for Kontakt (which I don't have), and the other one Purity itself.
Well, never mind, I don't feel cheated, 1) because Europeans always pay more than Americans, and 2) because it is worth it anyway, a bargain even at 48 euros, especially for people with limited download bandwidth. Most other romples are just too huge to download...

Sky Cha keeps saying to look out for their new products, so I think we can assume they'll be coming out with more things in the future.
Hopefully we've given this company enough attention so that they get more sales and build another kickass sound module in the future.

Maybe stating the obvious but you could use a range of techniques to narrow the stereo width of the piano (MS processors, DAWS with width controls like Reaper etc etc...)
I used to like that Betabugs plugin... mondeo(?) that treated each stereo channel as a separate mono channel so you could pan them independently. With that (or equivalent plug...) you could, say, pan the left of the piano nearly all the way to the left then the right maybe just a bit to the left so you still have a 'stereo' piano but not smeared all across the soundstage but contained in just part of it. Obviously you need to check it still sounds good, plenty of scope for making things sound rather unnatural...

"Actually, our main developer pooped out the work after finished Purity windows 64-bit version only.
So I get the feeling that any new products from Luxonix will be sample content. It's ironic since Purity begs for new sample content.....perhaps they'll find a new main developer but see my quote a few posts back..........
