Hi, can you recommend XY devices for live performances?
I would use them to control Zebra for example.

Thanks.

Korg nanoPAD has an XY pad. But you might be best off with a tablet device and TouchOSC.

Someone wants to kick Korg in the arse and point out that a quad/hex/octa-pad 'NanoXY' might be a useful thing.

Been looking all over for xy-pads or joysticks. Indeed, there's the Korg, but not much else. Livid has a dual joystick module. Kenton has a nice knob thing with a joystick (but very expensive).
I came to the conclusion that all is needed is Lemur or TouchOSC and a MIDI interface (wifi is too laggy for my tastes). It is far more flexible than any other solution with a fraction of the cost. You might feel differently if you don't already have a tablet of course...

EDIT, I know some people have been succesful with external (and internal laptop) touchpads (Logitech makes one). But it's not intended for MIDI useage, so you have to use some software to translate its data to MIDI.

As a sidestep. What amazes me is that in Live, there are xypads for each external plugin. Now they make a hardware device (Push) with... NO xypad...

Maybe this ?

That looks quite neat indeed, Teksonik! :)

I have used various things for this: a Wacom Intuos3 tablet, a bunch of 1st gen. iPhones (accelerometers are even more fun than XY pads, imho), and most recently, a Leap Motion controller.

Novation ReMote SL series have X/Y pads.

An iPad or iPod Touch is probably the best...even the earlier versions work well for this(I have an iPad 1)

Liine has their Lemur app on sale at the moment:

I have an iPod touch...how does one get the midi it would generate into the computer ? Would be perfect to sit on top of my midi keyboard to use as a dedicated XY pad........

You could use one of those IK devices, or buy a camera connection kit and a cheap MIDI-to-USB cable to connect to it. There's probably more alternatives..

I looked into it one time. I just wanted the entire iPod screen to be one XY Pad and have that send Midi to Zebra for example. I never did find a solution but to be honest I kind of lost interest and gave up but it would be kind of cool if the response time was acceptable. I already have a Midi to USB cable so there's one part of the equation. The iPod would fit perfectly over the display on my Axiom which I keep covered up already since you can't turn it off and it's too bright when the studio is dark......

In which case I would get the connection the kit. I tried connecting with wifi in the past, but found it too laggy as well. I suppose a direct connection by USB would solve this.
The other issue would be finding the right app. TouchOSC comes to mind, but you'd still have to build your own (albeit simple) template to use.

The pads on the QuNeo are X/Y sensitive, but I don't know if you can 'play' them like an X/Y pad. If so, then that would be a good solution.
