:D
One can always say that those downloading warez do so because they just want to check the product, without the demo limitations, and that they would buy it if they liked it.

Warez site make money from one main thing I believe and that is from pop-up ads or other such ads generated when users click on their links.

So in the process those using warez for one reason or the other, make a lot of money for the warez sites, and those making money will naturally not cease to exist ;)

Agreed.
I think once the genie is out of the bottle its out. :)

It could maybe be halted a bit if more users thought twice about how OK it is to "try before you buy" ;)

Yes it could but all the evidence suggests that isn't going to happen.
Thats why dongles were invented. :)

Just downloaded the Crisalys demo, there is that annoying periodic demo noise again. There is one user on KVR who wrote some time ago that he doesn't even demo plugins anymore if there is any limitation.

I like the way Superwaves does it, no limitations whatsoever for 3 weeks. So no noise, no missing controls, and one can save user patches etc. And it works, I have bought several Superwaves plugins already and will buy Tarkus soon. Sure, I could reset the timer, but I want to pay for it as they deserve it.

The burst it's not a limitation, it's a feature: RNO (Random Noise Oscillator). Modeled after a mosquito tenor jamming on a happy summer night.

That's another way of looking at it :D And where is the control to set its frequency to zero? :hihi:

Oh no no, no control! It's something like the emulation of instability of old analog synths, there is no control! To be more realistic the mosquito must be like a real mosquito so it's free to kick in when HE decide to strike! ;)

Anyway, no continuous pulse width control or am I missing something (wouldn't be the first time)? 8)

I stopped offering uncrippled demos, because any time restriction (or periodic sound drops etc.) are cracked faster than to recieve the first order.
Besides my free stuff I will only offer demos with missing features (missing knobs or so), this way I get at least a hand full sales, until someone uses a stolen credit card or paypal pass and then spreads the original file.
Serial protections etc. are also removed quick, so that's no alternative. Only ilok dongle would be, but costs and effort are in no relation to the revenues (and the result would be getting 80% more customers because there is no crack and loosing 50% who don't like dongles)....

As said, the most annoying point is that the wares sites make money with it, for example from the file hosters if someone pays to get faster downloads.
Some file hosters allow "abuse complains" to remove that files, but each with a different form to fill (after finding the link). It would be cool if someone develops a tool that automatically sends to all file hosters and major search engines the appropiate removal request data after entering the name of the crack file...

Suppose there's nothing wrong with trying to turn a disadvantage into an advantage.
Oh yeah, I had one sale and a 2$ donation since my first post in this thread....  :scared:

I know several producers with lots of original software still boxed in their studios because they prefer to use the pirated versions. It's something that I don't condone but I can see the point and the frustration.
Wow, that's weird. So, why did they buy the stuff in the first place?!
Maybe to use the DAW without the dongle/protection system but still sort of support the company. Not That I Condone Such Behavior! I'm just thinking "why" like you asked.

Hi this is Saverio from HoRNet Plugins... i really don't care about warez. Plugins are going to be pirated anyway, you could work hard and spend some time protecting them well with serial, time bombs etc but in my opinion every line you add to the code is a potential bug, and it has to be processed by the CPU somehow. So no protection in my plugins, the only annoy the ones who buy them.
More, the cracked versions of my plugins are cracked demos, they have to modify the assembler adding jumps here and there, i wouldn't trust cracked plugins for serious work, it's software blindly modified by someone who doesn't understand how your code is written... who use cracked software is not serious about his work and really I don't want them as customers.

It's true indeed. All of these protection ideas are eventually not working. Moreover it makes life of the honest users more complicated. Every time when I install fresh Windows I need to spend a lots of time for finding serial numbers, logins and passwords, installing drivers for iLok, etc.
And is any software that has never been cracked? I don't think so...
