Aren't (some of) those instruments a bit outdated by now? I read some time ago that Toxic and Wasp were given to and further developed by ImageLine.

I don't think I use any of them anymore.. outside of the 909 clone and occasionally the piano when I want to load a piano quickly.
I think they were planning on revising a lot of them in the next software update, but likely not any time soon.

It seems to be a rather small company with too many products to take care of. They are probably focusing on Dune2 these days...

I think it is 3 or less people there. And Orion is definitely on the 'back burner' to their Instruments and Rack Extensions.
That said, they've mentioned on their forums that Orion is NOT a discontinued product, just on hiatus somewhat with Dune 2 coming first. That is why I don't see anything happening with Orion this year...

Toxic2 was licensed with source code so it is inside orion 8.5 32 and 64 bit
but toxic3 source code has not been sold to synapse so there will not be toxic3 inside orion 8.5
on the contrary, image-line has an old version of wasp and orion 8.5 has the ultimate version 5 with fat osc button to simulate supersaw osc
the next news about synapse is Dune2 for Q4 and Orion will come after

I don't know if it even makes sense to update Orion, it has never been very popular, and now with Bitwig in the pipeline and all the other developers that really focus on their DAWs...
The DAW market seems saturated and thus very competitive.

I guess many people would like such a basic, yet quality synth as a VST.carrieres wrote:Toxic2 was licensed with source code so it is inside orion 8.5 32 and 64 bit

Most comparable synths are made in SynthEdit...

Orion is just about the only pattern based host, niche market. To update it ny turning it into 'the same as the rest' def doesnt make sense.fluffy_little_something wrote:I don't know if it even makes sense to update Orion, it has never been very popular, and now with Bitwig in the pipeline and all the other developers that really focus on their DAWs...

Most of Orions native synths are easily outclassed by VSTs these days, but are still very useful

Yes, I like Dune, but it is not as simple as Wasp.carrieres wrote:Richard put all his experiences into Dune !

Occasionally I still wonder if I should get Dune, but I don't know what to think of their pricing and sales channels. Someone said one can get the full version of Dune plus a year's subscription to a magazine for 70 euro, then there is the free stipped-down magware version,... I don't like that bargain mentality. Everyone who bought it at the regular price must feel like having been ripped off.
Nor do I know what the upgrade from version 1 to 2 will cost.

I'm not sure pattern based is that small of a niche... we have FL Studio, Abelton Live, and BWS (once it arrives).. all pretty well established (outside of BWS of course)
and Reason has some form of patterns.. I think Sonar does too at least it imports Project5 songs.
Cubase tries to kind of but I think it loops whole chunks of a song.. so you'd have to individually lay the patterns of a song out and then map those... or stick with whole sections..
