Update: There was an email from u-he support in my inbox first thing this morning. Rob had responded 8 OCT but either the email was scrubbed by my provider before it arrived or I missed it in a spam folder that auto-empties daily.

Apparently Studio One has provided some challenges in the past that have been thought to be all met successfully. I shall experiment with a modified version of Zebra to see if it provides a fix.

Thanks, u-he!

Hello,

My first post on KVR, so best regards to all!

I installed Zebra2 (registered) on a 2013 MacBook Pro Monday and host it in Studio One 2.6. In short, it has an issue with the VST and RTAS versions, though it runs fine in AU. The plug-in starts and runs fine. However, when you "Remove Instrument" Studio One crashes every time. This doesn't happen in AU, so the app isn't rendered unusable, which is great.

What I would like to find out is whether this is a peculiarity with my computer, an incompatibility with Studio One, or just what.

I emailed u-he last Monday, but either my email or their reply got lost in e-limbo; thus, I elected to ask here. I've removed Zebra2 from the computer, downloaded again, and re-installed. Same behavior. Since this is the only plug-in to have an issue like this, it has me scratching my head.

Any comments or help would be most appreciated.

Thank you. Sorry for the long post.

I have just tried this in Studio One 2.6 with Zebra demo and no issues or crash. Mac Pro 10.7.4.
Might help to narrow this issue down.

Do you have the crash log?

Why did you say there was an issue with RTAS?

Is it when you remove plugin from arrange window or the mixer, I tried both.?

Thank you for your response.

My bad saying "RTAS". Misunderstood the icons. Should have said both VST2 and VST3 versions.

I tried removing from "Console" view and it worked okay no crash. Closed Console. Removed track in arranger then opened another instance of VST3. When I removed that instrument from the arranger view, STudio One crashed.

Addendum:

Made numerous trials removing instrument from Console view without issue. Then tried again in arrange and crashed. Then, tried Zebralette and VST2 & 3 both crashed Studio One removing from console view. Well, heck.

Then, tried with Zebra and same thing, crashes when removed from Console view. Though I know there has to be a reason, it's probably going to be abstruse.

I guess the moral to this story is to avoid VST with Zebra on this machine and stick with AU.

Hi fitzo! I recommend sending an email to support [at] u-he [dot] com with your crash log and the version of Zebra you're installing. They're pretty responsive, even over weekends if you're lucky. :)

Edit: What email did you send to last Monday?

Post

Thanks, bmrzycki. I sent my e-mail last Monday to support[at]u-he[dot]com. (Doublechecked to make sure I had the address correct.)

I will try again, thanks.

Post

Between here and email I'm sure you'll get help soon. Good luck!

Note to u-he Support:

I have sent another e-mail 1:50PM GMT Saturday 12OCT2013 with a brief description of my problem and a crash report pasted in. "fitzo" is in the email address.

Please acknowledge here if you have received this email.

Thank you for your consideration!

I would do 2 things.

1. Download the combo version of your current system from Apple (its call Combo 10.8.xx) and install, sometimes the software update one causes issues, it used to really mess up Protools.

2. Open S1, go to Help/Open settings folder, in the folders x64 and x86 delete the Plugins-ens.settings. They are preference files that get rebuilt when you open S1 again.

Got it!

It looks like a VST3 threading problem. This might be something we've resolved already for Satin. I am not sure though.

Clemens needs to look at it once he's back in Berlin, on Monday.

Thank you for your continuing help. I tried #2 but it didn't change anything. I am downloading the Combo 10.8.5 from 3OCT2013 but will probably wait to hear from Urs again before I change anything further.

Thanks, again!

No Worries, the combo update is everything, where as the software update is only the bits that have changed. As a rule always update from the Combo.

Do wait and see what Urs comes up with.

Thanks for that nugget! As is probably obvious, I am a Mac noob. I decided I wanted to try a Mac after 30 years with PCs. At the same time, I am new to the music software after years with only Acid Pro and building music from their loop libraries. I've always been more a hardware keyboard enthusiast.

It is all rather overwhelming to try and learn at once, and I have numerous mis-steps. That said, I am having fun and learning. Which is not a bad thing for an old retired guy. The Groove3 tutorials for S1 have been very helpful.

So, thanks again!
