I have been using Cubase since SX1 so...Don't worry, Cubase 7 is the best most stable version ever. I have it on 4 Pc's and a MAC (by the way I like the MAC version the best) and it just hums. The instruments are top notch and the new FX are too. Midi and Audio functions are second to none. A lot of improvement has happened to Cubase since v 5. The one thing I absolutely appreciate is the GUI design. The shading and line depth is very well thought out in Cubase. Yes, the window design needs updating but it has improved also. I generally keep the mixer on one screen and the Arranger on the other. If you are just starting to use it make sure you learn the key commands. I work mostly with midi except vocals and a life saver is the CMD+L/Cntrl+L command. Select a group of midi notes and set the play or editor cursor where you want them, press CMD+L and all selected notes move to that location. No cut/paste or select and drag like other DAWs.

Cheers

C-note i dont really understand what your post have to do with the topic (new upgrade prices) but it's fine to know that you like it. :hihi:

ps. other DAW have hotkeys for midi too thats nothing what is cubase exclusive.

HMS Steinberg is a fine ship, but unless you keep paying the cabin crew, you'll be tossed overboard. That said, HMS Cockos is looking like a distinctly leaky refugee flotilla, with more cabins carelessly riveted on in random locations as requirements demand. HMS ImageLine is beautiful ship, but constantly fighting off pirates. HMS Live seems to be going round in circles. HMS Bitwig is out of radar contact.

Poor HMS energyXT... she lies at the bottom of the sea...

Just saw this...

Steinberg NEVER dropped prices for their hosts. VST/Samples, yes. But not their hosts.

Maybe you misinterpret it for the DM to EUR change? Here it clearly looked like it got price dropped.

BTW:
I know you can't make this comparison anymore. But Steinberg Cubase once cost about 700-900DM (about 350-450 EUR, after the DM->EUR switch actually 399-499EUR IIRC).

Now it's up to 599 EUR.

Nuendo 6 without the NEK (Expansion Kit) is at 1699EUR (if we'd go by "old currency", that's 3400DM).

As comparision:
Magix Sequoia (similar to Nuendo): 2.975,00 EUR

Ableton Live 9 Suite D: 639 EUR (Thomann)
Apple Logic Pro X: 179,99 EUR (App Store Only)
AVID ProTools (MSRP): 677,11 EUR (Thomann, download, iLok 2 not included)
Cakewalk Sonar X2 Suite: 249 EUR (IIRC)
Cockos Reaper: 225 USD / roughly 170 EUR (full license, 2 Upgrade cycles)
Image-Line Fl Studio Signature Bundle 11: 299 EUR (Lifetime Free Upgrades!)
Magix Samplitude Pro X: 505,00 EUR (Pro X Suite is 1.011,50 EUR)
Presonus Studio One v2 Professional (MSRP): 399 EUR (299 EUR STREET!!!!)
Propellerhead Reason 7 (MSRP): 405 EUR (Thomann)

Questions:
In what form is Steinberg Cubase competitive in any way?
Are the price raises adjusted (also considering the bundled content, pretty much all of them come with GB's of stuff)?

Form quick overview, Cubase is in the upper range to "high class" field (not counting SADIE, Sequoia and Nuendo). Doesn't take much to play around with AVID and Ableton. But considering how buggy that POS(!) is, I am NOT in the mood paying 250 quids every 1,5 years because Steinberg f*cked up! :x

Furthermore:
From pretty much all mentioned develpers, there are "earlier versions" still available on the market (boxed). Steinberg regulary asks for shipping them back to stomp them in. So if you want to use an "earlier" version, you need to buy the most recent one and ask for an image of an old Cubase.

SUMMARY:
I really, really, really(!!!) hope that Studio One V3 evolves into something that Cubase with SX3 and Cubase 5/6 was. Rather than being a "producer only" aimed tool, that pretty much leaves out hardware users. Because THEN, switching just looks more interesting (and the upgrade fees are more fair).

Why? S1 can load Cubase projects, and apparently Presonus can code way better according to ASIO / VST SDK specs than Steinberg themselves!

But I know the sad reality - I'll stick with Cubase. But maybe this is the first time in years that I sit out a version. If I have to buy it new anyway.. funk that.

thats not true. they dropped their prices for cubase (& wavelab) on 01.07.2008 to 599,- EUR before cubase cost 799,- EUR.

And they had a -40% on upgrades recently. I upgraded from 5LE to 7 Artist for €149.
Anyone interested in a copy of Cubase 6 AI (CMC) for €20?

again, the great offer was only for the small versions upgrades to full cubase 7 and artist and on their site it's still 31.8.

What is your point? That's great for the owners of small versions. I paid €149 for C7 Artist in total.
sebaden wrote: and on their site it's still 31.8.
Then they didn't update their site. I bought mine on 29/09.

your comment was like every update is 40% off when it isn't hence my quote.

"I said it before.. Cubase is a rich man's audio sequencer."

Well I'm gonna consider myself lucky then, because I switched from Sonar X2a to full Cubase 6.5 which gave me a free grace period update to full Cubase 7 AND a free full version of HALion 4 which also gave a free upgrade to HALion 5 all for just $369.00. :D

[HALion 4 was $349.00 alone.]

And I'm anything but a rich man.

But I'm real happy with this deal.

For the first time ever, since Sonar 6 Studio, I have not upgraded to Sonar X3 now because of it.

Someone on the Sonar forums said that Cubase is miles ahead and I quite agree.

As for the upgrade & prices - not sure I'll need it or care since everything is running fine.

Why always claiming about Logic Pro?

The DAW is cheaper than a Cubase Update. :D

And the Dongle price is "relative".
A used iMac or a MacMini is still affordable.

It would be nice if one of the Steinberg reps would actually say
"Oh wait, we f*cked up! You're right, the prices aren't fair - especially to longtime users"

Or an info like:
"With the price raise, we drop the infamous interim-payments for dot updates".

But something like this will NEVER go over the lips of either one of them. If we at least had(!) the assurance that we won't pay extra for dot upgrades. But alas, the chief of the marketing section already wrote several times "will be paid" over at the Steinberg boards.

Lost cause?
Probably.

Solution?
None - we just cruise along and silently take all this sh*t.
