Thanks much for the post... I always appreciate your viewpoint on features and usability.justin3am wrote: There is a button in the clip editor that allows you to switch between editing a single clip (as Live does it) or editing all of the Audio or MIDI on a track at once. You can layer multiple tracks of the same kind in the clip editor, so you can compare the timing of edits with other tracks/clips. I don't think you can layer MIDI tracks with Audio tracks. It would be cool if you could but you can quickly switch between active audio and MIDI layers with a button in the editor. You can super-impose an audio track to the background of a MIDI clip but I find myself working the other way a lot (moving audio events to match the position of MIDI notes) and I don't think you can edit the audio in the background.
The inspector (similar to the middle box in Live's Clip Editor) can work like an event editor (which I love). You can edit the properties of individual notes and audio events (these are the edits which can be contained within clips). I really like working this way so it's a big plus for me.
From the photos with the audio underlay, it had looked like you could edit audio and midi tracks together! Too bad, but hey, being able to edit multiple clips of the same type at once is already a big improvement over Live!
I also adjust audio to midi more than the other way round...
Tom answered this one, but IIRC he wasn't so sure, so does Bitwig combine midi channels internally like Live does?
Cheers...

I think someone mentioned it but I'm not so sure now.pdxindy wrote:Thanks much for the post... Yes, It looks like it does (unless I'm missing a setting). However, I don't want to make definitive statements about features because I don't know if this is the final implementation.pdxindy wrote:Tom answered this one, but IIRC he wasn't so sure, so does Bitwig combine midi channels internally like Live does?

It's just a simple question, with an equally simple way to answer.justin3am wrote:Indeed, even if that weren't the case, it's not really my role as a beta tester to do performance testing.ThomasHelzle wrote:Exactly. The Mantra wrote:I'm not in Beta but i have participated in beta for other software. It seems common for beta software to run extra code in the background which would affect performance. If that's the case for BWS then I doubt the beta testers could give any meaningful info on performance.BMoore wrote: Well.
Performance is key, and it's been asked about several times.
I know we're not entitled to answers, and any participation from beta testers are appreciated, but as far as I can see, there are very few significant questions answered.
Internal QA has the ability to compare performance of their application on many different computers, which have been configured exactly the same way (so there are few unknown factors). Most end-users/beta testers do not have that capability. I know I couldn't do that sort of thing from home. Test methodology is very important when it comes to QA and particularly unit testing, performance testing, compatibility testing, etc. That is why these things are done by a team who are following a spec and a test plan. They run tests concurrently, to make sure that results match up and that they don't get anomalous behavior under certain circumstances.
I'm not saying that any person is incapable of doing this kind of testing. I'm just saying, when I'm acting as a beta tester, I take off my QA hat and put on my end-user hat. I hope that makes sense.

And before that is confirmed as true, and a bit strange, I still think there is an issue with performance.Ogopogo wrote:No, as they said, there is reason to believe that the performance in the beta will not be the same as the final release.

I can confirm that "this" is strange.
I can confirm that BMoore still thinks there is an issue with performance.
Hey, we don't even need cats to have fun!
Sorry, couldn't resist...
Cheers,
Tom
