logged in to the mackie site to change my machine number (new g4 ibook ..mmm) - i hit 'change machine numbers', it tells me it's sent me the key, but no email ever arrives..
i've tried about 20 times now

You're sure you've given it a valid email address and that it's not being caught up in a spam filter (e.g. if you're using hotmail or something similar)?
If it still doesn't work, send an email to Mackie and/or post on their support forums as well. I did this day before yesterday and it worked first time.
