Its got to be a joke becasuse the only point of needing tape plugins is to capture a specific color / distortion sound.

Who owns the original code these days anyway?

Because it was done already, and I'd love to see that one revived. Including ALL THREE compressor's that was accessable through one plugin.

That. :hihi:

The first thing that came to my [admittedly a bit disturbed :D] mind when I saw the ad was: "Abbey Road J37 tape emulation plugin will bring stunning [GUI placebo] analog warmth to your digital recordings, delivering a level of hardware realism [of the GUI] never before experienced in the box."

Spinning reels...i bet someone will whine how tape size should decrease on one reel and increase on another..or is it a joke?
Both. Joking and not.

How can I be sure that those important things (audio related) are working properly when that not-so-important cartoonish fluff is not doing its silly little magic? That's my point.

Now one thing is sure: plugin's eyecandy part does not work the way it should on my Sonar X1, but on Reaper it seems to work. Ok?

I'm not buying it (reels spinning or not), just curious to know what might cause that. I'm quite sure it's Sonar related issue...

Optimal number of audio plugins is one more than you currently have.

But we are talking about the real analog behaviour!!

Have to agree with that - the delay part sort of degrade it to a bling-bling toy and saying that saturation part is not that good and making it worth buying.

It's a pity SoftTube has these dongles or I would be all over them. The company is all built from good algorithms for enhancing audio analog way - it's what they do.

All respect to all these plugins from vendors with saturation in mind - but they hardly have credability like companies doing only saturation as a company core.

Where are the people who complained about the 3D-ish GUI from SonEQ Pro ?
Here is some food :hihi:

depending on how you work, dongles may not be a problem. i am a simple home enthusiast, so my music PC is always at home. i have finally got myself an iLok this spring, and it's quietly sitting in the back of my PC, i hardly ever think about it. for all the bashing dongles get here, it's been a surprisingly pleasant experience. it's like a whole world of new, cool stuff has opened up for demoing and buying (Softube, Soundtoys, Sonnox, Kush Audio, Massey, Slate, Antares to name a few). i since got myself a Softube's Summit channel and use it constantly.

on-topic: has anyone actually tried it yet?
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

Quick test, first you will hear the dry version then the processed version,on each track there is a j37 plugin (including the master bus.)
I was looking for a vintage sound so i choose 7.5 ips and ,increased noise floor ,also a tiny bit of increased saturation and tape formula 815.The levels on each track was hitting between 0 and + 3 vu on each track, rms levels were compensated by ear/auto-mode .

Waves Technical Support:

Thank you for providing all of the information.

I checked in Sonar X1 and it seems that the reels are not spinning in this version of sonar (it does on X2 and X3).
Still, the plugin sounds the way it should, however I will transfer this issue to our QA department.
Once they reply I will let you know.

In the meantime, enjoy our plugins.

I like that cheesy music :D !

But I prefer the dry version here. Honestly, no doubt this new plugins sounds no less than great, but on that kind of mix, just one instance on the master would sound good enough IMHO.

Here, this is too much, exaggerated.

I believe same people who destroyed the thread because of the GUI on gearslutz...are doing same sh1t here.

I still haven't read a single quality post about how it sounds. And that's sad!!!

I just don't understand why some people are calling it "cartoonish" looking. It looks no more like a cartoon than any UAD offering, and if anything, I think that FabFilter's GUIs are the most cartoonish.

Probably because it is just that - cartoonish

And it's not less or more cartonish then UAD itself. Don't tell me that you think how UAD doesn't have cartoonish look. It does.

Slate, Softube etc..they are not cartoonish. Note that i am not claiming one have value over another, it is down to person preference i am just saying that it is cartoonish because it is. If you think J37 is photorealistic i think you have problems with colors or something. Cartoonish - meaning - oversaturated colors, fake looking shadows, weird lighting etc.. it doesn't have anything with the processing quality or something.

And just to make it clear, i like J37 GUI. However i am finding spinning reels just a useless gimmick - that is
