Zebra2 and Diva VST3 under Sonar X3: preset location and "open in explorer"

After I installed Zebra VST3, I found that the browser displays no presets and that clicking on "open in explorer" fails.

Here are my steps:

Install Zebra 2.6.0 VST2 64-bit on Windows 7 and run it under Sonar X2 64-bit. OK.
Upgrade Sonar to X3b, which supports VST3. OK.
Install Zebra 2.6.0 VST3 64-bit. It has the above problems.

The presets for Zebra 2 VST2 are in

C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\Zebra2.data\presets\Zebra2.

In the VST2 version browser, when I click "open in explorer," it takes me there.

After I created a preset in the VST3 version, it appears in

C:\users\public\documents\u-he\Zebra2.data\presets.

I sent this problem to support on Oct. 7 and 10, but I haven't received an answer.

After that, I did the same procedure with Diva 1.2. All my presets disappeared, so I reinstalled VST2 and VST3. I had to restore my custom Diva presets from backup media.

Current problems are

(1) "Open in explorer" fails on both versions of Zebra2 and Diva.
(2) I'm not sure where the presets should be.
(3) In the patch browser for both products, using the up and down arrow keys on the computer no longer works.

That's new to us.

We installed Sonar X3 yesterday, but Rob isn't in the office today.

However,

C:\users\public\documents\u-he\Zebra2.data\presets.

Is not a good location. Unlike what it appears to be ("public") it's one of those restricted areas in Windows. Our future installers will not allow to install data there.

In the same vein, C:\Program Files\... is write protected and should never be used to install plug-in data.

It's possible (don't know for sure) that Windows 7 does not even allow plug-ins without admin rights to use the "open in Explorer" function in these areas.

Hence we recommend to drag Zebra2.data into C:\Users\You\Documents and create a Shortcut that goes into the directory of the Zebra2.dlls, as explained here:

Urs,

Thanks for the detailed reply. I followed the directions in your message and in the Windows 7 Permission Fix. I did an additional step: Sonar X3 now has a folder for VST3 plugins:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3

I found Diva(64).vst3 and Zebra2(64).vst3 there, so I also copied the Diva.data link and the Zebra2.data link there.

All my presets are only in C:\Users\Mitch\My Documents\Diva.data... and Zebra2.data... and the links point to them.

The result is that Zebra2 and Diva now work for me and display presets in their browsers.

Here are the remaining issues:

In the VST3 versions, "Open in Explorer" doesn't work. It works OK in the VST2 versions.

In the VST3 versions, using the keyboard's up and down arrows to move between patches doesn't work. It works OK in the VST2 versions.

This might be an issue:

In Sonar X3, Edit → Preferences → File → VST Settings → VST3 Migration → "Hide Related VST2 Plug-ins" is checked, but the VST2 versions of Diva and Zebra2 are still visible and selectable in my (default) list in Insert → Soft Synth → VST2.

Thanks.
