My experience of Steinberg support so far has been fine.I agree about the upgrade prices being steep though.

What do you expect? That they lower prices just because some people here want them to do so?electricthing wrote:Read this thread about how Steinberg treats customers, for me a big part of stopping to buy it.

I'm an American living in America, and I've sold Cubase twice.SODDI wrote:I'm American, and as far as I know Americans in America can't resell software.TheoM wrote:Hi ok yes sx3 had a naughty version. I wonder why you can't sell it though? I never heard of cubase being nfr.. Tell me it isn't so!
There isn't even a transfer fee!

Though my current Cubase license is pretty ancient by today's standards and I've had my fair share of sporadic issues with it over a number of update cycles, there's no denying the powerhouse of a DAW that you get for the money. I'd never say it was a bad investment, even after the price hikes. I do think Yamaha/Steinberg is only mildly interested in the hobbyist market and the pricing reflects that, but for serious users the price is still a bargain. An extra $100 is nothing to the myriad professional scoring composers for TV/game/film that depend heavily on Cubase to manage their multi-thousand dollar orchestra sampling libraries.TheoM wrote:
What exactly have they done wrong support wise? The price rise sucks yes but to come in and say to buy from a reputable company like presonus and cockles is hilarious, as if steinberg Yamaha is not some reputable company or something, so far I've needed a bit of support and they have been EXCEPTIONAL, just to throw some balance out there. I never expected it to be honest but I've been pleasantly surprised, if anything, I would go as far to say that steinberg rock. Also, reaper is complete joke compared to cubase. I find the comparison rather hilarious. Studio one is nice, but all it really is is a stripped down cubase type thing itself. No comparison.
I am SO glad at this point in time to be on the steinberg ship.

My tip was an addition to this thread.

I don't like the way Steinberg/Yamaha treated me as a longtime customer.
For other people that feel the same I gave a tip that works great (buying Cubase elements to keep acces to your projects (audio, midi, arrangements)
Reaper works great, with projects I started in Cubase and worked on further in Reaper and with new projects. I'm happy and want to share this tip.
Reaper to me feels more like a lean recording device, Cubase feels like a rigid office.
That's my feeling. Right?
And I can imagine that it's not for everyone so I mentioned Studio One.
This is what I have been through and no one is gonna tell me that it's not my experience.
