slow saving time in large multi (and crashes)

I may be pushing my receptor 2 pro max to it's edge, but I have not experienced the incredibly long saving times for multi presets I am dealing with right now. I have all the slots filled, mostly with Kotakt 5 and 23% of ram available. It takes up to a minute to open a Kotakt edit window, if the receptor does not reboot, and saving a patch can take over 3 minutes, if the receptor does not reboot and lose my work! (which is 75% of the time). I am not having as much trouble with small multis, but the issues do appear even with 3-4 slots filled. Is it just too much for the unit to run that many instances of Kotakt? Is it an issue with not enough ram for the process of saving to work correctly? Is it a CPU issue?
Thanks for any perspectives!

Many questions come to mind.
- Which OS? 1.9 or 2?
- Can you try creating an "empty" Kontakt instrument (no samples loaded), save that as a Receptor single, then fill each channel with that single? Does that bog down the machine?
- Could you try layering instruments within a Kontakt multi so that you don't have so many instances running?

Thanks for the reply and suggestions! This is the most recent 1.9 OS. I will try your idea of loading the empty Kontakt instances.
I do a one-man band improvised accompaniment for dance and require many sounds to be available immediately. At this point I have 2-6 instruments in each of the instances of Kontakt in the multi that I use for performance, along with 2 absynth instances, 2 battery, 2 guitar rigs, and a master reverb send.
Once things are saved it has been running smoothly at 64 samples playing with 3-6 of the channels not bypassed! I love my receptor. I have spent too much time staring at the mixer view hoping the current preset will save without crashing though....I am not sure what the exact resources are that the operating system uses during the preset saving process. I have 23% of ram available, I am not playing while I am saving, and there is plenty of room on the hard drive. Is this behavior the price of pushing the capabilities of the unit to the max? (It is a pro-max)
I appreciate the troubleshooting help.

Hmmmm... you are dangerously close to running out of RAM when you have only 23% left... I'd highly recommend that you thin out some of the presets. Please realize that a lot of plugins have dynamic RAM loading, and will load in the background so what you see reported at one point could vary rapidly and unexpectedly.
A lot of people don't realize that Kontakt has a "purge" function that will "save" all the notes you touch and then let you throw out all the "unused" samples. This can significantly reduce the RAM requirements, which will reduce load times substantially. After all, if you are only using 20 notes in a preset that has 88 notes of samples (at multiple velocities) then you are really wasting a lot of RAM for that.
Further more, you might want to consider programming Kontakt in a multi-timbral mode instead of using multiple instantiations of Kontakt. This is especially important if using earlier versions of Kontakt that didn't have a RAM server built into them.
If you aren't able to regularly and consistently save a preset, there is some more programming required to ensure that things will be stable for you...
If you want some additional help, you might want to post a screen shot or give a listing of the channel assignments...
All the best

Oh man I read that as "23% used"... so yeah, with 76% of memory consumed, you are really bogging down the machine.
I found that loading up 4 instances of Kontakt 5 consumed about 25% of RAM, even with no instruments loaded, so I think it's just the nature of that plugin.
Bryan has great suggestions, of course.

Thanks guys for your responses! I am pushing the receptor pretty hard. I will try some of the suggestions Bryan laid out. The positive piece of this for all of us is that I am able to consistently use the setup that I have with every channel and most of the RAM filled, with the drawback being issues with saving/editing.
