Recently had some more time to get back into music design... particularly sound emulation.
Posted this for the One Synth Challenge at the Instruments forum. Spent a few days designing the sounds for the competition and decided there's a fair amount to be made into a bank.
https://soundcloud.com/kaiyoti/zebra-dream-world
All sounds are from ZebraCM
Features some:
- Epic Toms
- Epic Bass Drums
- Thundersheet-like sounds
- Electric Bass Emulation
- French Horn Staccato Ensemble patches (still trying to figure out how to do a sustain patch)
- Trombone Staccato Ensemble patches
- Trumpet Staccato Ensemble patches
- Synth Choir Pad
- Various other cinematic percussive effects
Others coming soon:
TBA...
Unfortunately ZebraCM doesn't have a built in EQ, and a big chunk of the sounds in the demo requires using some EQ to get the right sound, and I've been using Reapers built in ReaEQ... if anyone have any idea on how I can release this bank so that it's more usable that would be great. I could potentially find a free EQ plugin and release the complimentary FX presets to chain them.
I will however, most likely port these to Zebra2 to take advantage of the EQ in Zebra2 to make them standalone sounds.
[Update] Looks like it'll be much easier to just release these as Zebra2 banks.

If you don't need ModFX, activate it anyway, set Mix to minimum, adjust the LoCut, LoBoost HiCut and HiBoost knobs.kaiyoti wrote:Unfortunately ZebraCM doesn't have a built in EQ...

I actually have already used those, but those aren't enough... which probably means I should be using a band filter.

So I just found out that ZebraCM patches can be imported into Zebra2, is this true? I'm at work at the moment so I can't check but can someone confirm? I was actually planning to recreate it into Zebra 2 but this will work out better than I thought.

Tough to say, I have very limited time after work to dedicate time (I'm a software engineer), but I'm trying to set a deadline before Christmas. I know I don't have the best track record of releasing banks... at all, but with Zebra2 should be different. I had always planned on releasing the brass Synth1 patches as well as some other wind instruments but I never committed and was hesitant on releasing mostly because the patches were crude. A lot of post processing were required to make it sound like my demos, raw patches for Synth1 would just disappoint a lot of people. If I can take advantage of the "post" processing modules within Zebra to replace the processing I have on these ZebraCM patches.Tp3 wrote:When will it be available (in either form) ?
I also had some time today to listen to some of Ken Elhardt's synthesis demos (he's the reason why I dabbled with imitative synthesis), and I'm inspired to create more than just brass and percussion (my usual sounds).

I listened to the demo - very nice stuff! However, i don't own zebra, so please please consider releasing the zebraCM patches too, so i'm able to use them...
I've read what you've said about not being able to eq... If you can't get around it with the workaround suggested, i'll just have to pass on it. Or buy zebra

What ever became of this? Were the Synth1 presets ever released?
