What is the sidechain on the master doing?
I'm just using the hi-pass filter built into The Glue. It's usually around 150hz so it doesn't clamp down on the bass and kick too much.

Woah. :o
I assume you mean like this-

Geez I have never ever heard of that technique.
It makes a lot of sense!
Thanks!

Be on the lookout for my next track wherein I experiment with that and probably mangle my mix! :P

I used to have VCC as first insert, but I'm currently experimenting again with Airwindows Console2/Desk3... and also with a mix of VCC and Console2. I'm looking forward SDRR too !
... and I just spend today mixing into SDRR's Desk, and it's lovely.

I'm impressed by the way Satin and SDRR shape and enhance the audio, without painting/layering tones over the signal.
To my ears, they blend much more naturally with the source than the console/tape emus I used to mix into.

A mix of Console2 and SDRR might sound pretty good as well, with increased depth and separation.

So now, on my master buss :

IK Tracks 3 CS Le Grand
or Native Instruments Solid Mix Series.

Depends on the material.

Other times, Voxengo MSED, FL Parametric EQ 2 and FL Limiter.

Have a nice day :)

Satin and Ozone

(The latter is mainly there to get a good master level coming out to the phones and monitors while recording - it gets backed off to leave plenty of headroom when doing final 32-bit masters.)

New album, Chasing Fire, out now on Amazon, iTunes, etc.

- DBlue Glitch for various FX on final mix
- Izotope Ozone dynamics for mid-side control
- Ableton Utility to turn mono on-off
- Izotope Imager for mid-side check
- Dynamic Range Meter
- Ableton spectrum analyzer
- My own Volume Halver to bring down level before rendering

For compression, imaging and saturation I use separate mastering project.

not too much. some kind of bus plugin (satson buss, SDRR or other), satin, some kind of comp with gentle settings and clipper to prevent accidental overshoots. maybe an eq sometimes.
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

Updated as I found a LIVE plug called FB Bass Mono Maker that sums to mono below a selectable frequency(have it set at 200hz)
and have found the Oz5 doesn't really need the limiter after at all

Why not use Ozone to make the low end mono? That is what I use. Just wondering.

If a client wants a "single master" for sending out to djs and labels or whatever I generally use Density mkII, Baxter, Limiter 6, Gliss EQ, L2. That allows me to get a nicely loud balanced "radio" ready sound pretty fast. I always do the mix with a clean master bus first and just set that chain up for export.
Don't F**K with Mr. Zero.

Mix with fader at unity

Then

Order and plugs are not set in stone, but something like this.

Saturation NLS Buss set to Mike (Waves)
Mojo SSL Bus Compressor (Waves)
Volume Summit Audio TLA100 (Softube)
Clarity A Parametric EQ - could be H-EQ (Waves) - but I have a selection to choose from so depends on how I feel
Limiting Brick wall limiter (T-Racks) - Looking to upgrade this as there are better options out there - Thinking FabFilter Pro-L maybe.

Post

VUMT
ReelBus (sometimes)
SDRR (sometimes)
The Glue or TDR Feedback II (sometimes)
Ableton Utility (to check in mono)
