Hmm. All sound very usable and would be unidentifiable in a mix. I'm surprised by how much people obsess over the bottom end of a single synth sound. Most electronic music producers that I'm familiar with layer in a sub-bass beneath their mid and/or high bass because of the greater flexibility this provides for the final sound. It allows for better control over the mono vs. stereo bass signals as well and helps avoid low end muddiness.4damind wrote:I tried it a bit more... but the Virus is still different. Anyway, Spire and Massive are more in the same ballpark then Z3TA.

The sound to the patches is very similar, except z3ta2 instantly stands out, but i made a patch to sound similar as best as z3ta let me.
And now the fun beggins with when detuning is involved
https://www.dropbox.com/s/dgppzmqnozo5f ... d%20up.mp3
i didnt used any kind of eq, except i added a compressor on z3ta on second sample because it clips alot when synth gets detuned.
So detuning is one of the synth features, even tiny slightly differences can affect the sound output sonic characteristics, so now imagine how the sound can be affected if involving other features when making a more complex patches.
p.s. I did mentioned Spire before as virusy sounding, but i didnt added it to the test because i only have demo wich gives white noise from time to time and virus cant be rendered, so i just recorded everything in real time.

Thanks for the demo's but it sounds like the other synths have a sub or additional feature turned on. Your demos are the only ones that make z3ta sound lacking in the low freq department compared to any other demo I've heard with z3ta. I understand that you don't have the full version of Spire to compare with, but ideally, I'd like to be comparing z3ta with Spire with some referencing to the Virus.
I don't know how I missed it before deciding to buy Spire. It has a nice top end, but after listening more closely it's definitley lacking body compared to everything else. I'm monitoring with Dynaudios.

I just demo'ed the latest version of Spire. Kudos to the dev for getting the CPU under control. Was VERY impressed with the sound. Z3ta+ has always sounded brittle to me, but I think that's in the Fx coding. If Z3ta+ had Raptures Fx though, it could be a cream dream.

Sure, but as I said, your demos are the only ones that show z3ta lacking. I don't hear it in use or from any other demos.themachinelt wrote:Thats the thing, none of the other synths have any sub added, no eqdjanthonyw wrote:Thanks for the demo's but it sounds like the other synths have a sub or additional feature turned on. I must admit, these type of synths are never that great of interest to me. And these seem to be geared to a market with those interests in mind.
Z3ta+2 came as a coupon from buying SonarX2.
Massive came as part of Komplete9.
Making both essentially free with what I actually wanted when I bought them.
I believe both are NFR by being part of a set. And I have no problem using them for what they're good at for me.
The differences in timbre are there, however subtle.
They have a little more body to their tone than Spire.
So since I have these other two synths, there's no reason to even consider Spire, especially at that price. Like I said, maybe at $69.00 I might look at it. But $99? That would be a clear sign of GAS to buy it at that price. (TBH, I probably wouldn't even consider it until it came down to $49.00). And they're selling it for $139.00
Spire is far down the consideration list compared to several other synths out there.
JMO.

Not able to test Z3ta+2Just a simple test Spire and Virus Ti Snow bar 1 Virus
bar 2 Spire
bar 3 Virus
bar 4 Spire ....
Virus does not sound consistently at the high frequency:
one moment brightly, then hollowly, and then at some point like a floating modulation on the high.
At the bar 9-11 Virus sounds like Spire.
Owners of the Virus TI please check this Cubase project :

Spire just sounds too harsh for my taste. Z3TA seems more refined.

Harsh is in vogue right now because it's the kind of sound that'll cut through a dense mix, not something big, warm and bottom heavy. That's one of the reasons why the Nord Leads have been so consistently popular. Sharp, snappy and lean. A great production synth.
