iPad with Konkreet Performer is a killer combo for this sort of thing

I came to the conclusion that all is needed is Lemur or TouchOSC and a MIDI interface (wifi is too laggy for my tastes). It is far more flexible than any other solution with a fraction of the cost. You might feel differently if you don't already have a tablet of course...

EDIT, I know some people have been succesful with external (and internal laptop) touchpads (Logitech makes one). But it's not intended for MIDI useage, so you have to use some software to translate its data to MIDI.
if you can create an adhoc network from you pc or mac then the speed of using a tablet increases significantly from using the wifi from a router,

Hmmmm

To be honest, I have a Quneo, and I think it's actually not really too great for X/Y… Sure, You can use the pads for Zebra X/Y, but implementation sucks... balls.

Dodgy, vague feeling, inconsistent… They assume you want to trigger the pad while changing the sound.

Perhaps you can use the pads STRICTLY for Modulation... but I think it would drive you nuts.

I wound up using all eight sliders to control the XY, use the round things for some mod wheel action... no pitch-bend (accept on the damn PADS)... so it's kinda "eh". Modless pad set-up works because all the pads are then free for whatever they do best (usually just notes--either on 16 pads or four notes per pad).

As a small portable device Quneo wins... as a drum/trigger pad it's fairly good. It's just not as well implemented as (say) a Livid rig... even though it's great on paper. It's a terrible modulation control because it just isn't designed properly... options where you don't want them... standards are ignored... blah blah blah.

After my experience, I'd say use an iPad and a good app for X/Y, slider modulation control... I hear you CAN use Android too for TouchOSC... look for things like that.

Most likely, modulation options would be enhanced... and there's the whole not-wanting-to-gouge-out-your-eyes-out-in sorrow thing.

Yes!, this! and it would be nice to split for different VIs (Alchemy & Zebras)

And I was just getting ready to ask Mr. Twohy about the Quneo he mentioned elsewhere awhile back. All too timely!
